00:00Greenhouse gas emissions in the EU are going down, but only marginally.
00:11The latest Eurostat data on greenhouse gas emissions is out and it seems relatively good
00:18news for the EU. Emissions decreased by 0.6% between the third quarter of 2023 and the third
00:26quarter of 2024, totalling 767 million tonnes. The result was mostly driven by a large reduction
00:37in emissions generated by the electricity and gas supply chain, minus 6.7%, and more marginally
00:46by the transportation and storage sector, minus 0.9%. However, the result was solute by emission
00:56increases in water supply and waste management, as well as general services, mining and quarrying.
01:04Emissions went down in 16 EU member states, particularly in Austria, minus 7.8%, Hungary
01:15and Denmark. On the other hand, Lithuania reported the highest increase, plus 7.8%,
01:23followed by Luxembourg with 6.6% and Sweden with 6%.
