Hello there! Welcome to the final episode of Putting Dr. G on the Spot in the
00:05
month of March, when we talk about betterment for the New Year resolution
00:10
and what better to talk about is getting more sleep.
00:20
So is sleep really related to sex? Yes, it is. In fact, there are multiple studies that
00:26
actually demonstrated the correlation between sleep and sex, especially in men
00:31
and also in women. Let's talk about men first, right? We know that testosterone is
00:37
crucial in the form of enhancing sexual activity in men and we also know that
00:44
testosterone is being produced during a circadian cycle of a proper sleep. So
00:50
during sleep, the brain will stimulate a hormone called LH and the LH will
00:57
stimulate a lytic cell in the testicle and produce more testosterone and that
01:02
is the cycle that is crucial to maintain a sexual performance in men. When a man
01:09
is having interrupted sleep, obviously you become agitated, you become irritable
01:14
and that of course will suppress your need for sex. In addition to that, when a
01:19
man having interrupted sleep, for example sleep apnea and then they will
01:25
start having high blood pressure, high cholesterol and all these things will
01:29
have an impact on long-term sustainability of the perfusion to the
01:34
penis and resulting in erectile dysfunction as well. So when we know that
01:39
men have a better sleep, also the feel-good factor of their hormones such
01:46
as dopamine and serotonin will enhance and the sexual activity will enhance. As
01:52
far as women is concerned, there's one study looking at 171 women. If they get
01:57
one hour extra sleep, the frequency of sexual activity increased by 14% over
02:04
that period of time when they have an enhanced sleep and of course the hormone
02:09
balance between estrogen and testosterone in women is also crucial in order to
02:15
enhance sexual desire, libido and in women. So how do you have better sleep? In
02:22
fact there are several things. Number one, schedule a good night time to go to
02:28
sleep. So for example if you schedule at 10 o'clock every night, then your brain
02:33
will remember 10 o'clock is the time you go to sleep. The environment, the
02:37
environment is crucial. So try to make the environment relaxing and try to
02:43
avoid all these stimulants such as electronic devices and alarm clock and
02:49
that sort of thing and make the room very relaxing. And lastly, avoid certain
02:54
food and beverages such as caffeine and alcohol because all these things might
02:59
actually make you want to go ahead urinate more often and interrupt your
03:02
sleep. So exactly what we're going to talk about in the whole month of March,
03:06
we're going to talk about ejaculations. So one of the problems is that when
03:11
ejaculation happens too quickly, it's just like the year ending too quickly,
03:15
it's a condition called premature ejaculation. So if you do suffer from
03:20
that or you want to find out what exactly is premature ejaculation, stay
03:23
tuned for next week's Putting Dr. G on the Spot.
