00:00Former DAP MP P Ramasamy has questioned the government's move towards a review of the
00:06Security Offences Act 2012, saying this will not resolve the issues raised by critics of
00:12the law.
00:13In a statement, the former Batu Kawan MP said that SOSMA was inherently flawed and beyond
00:18improvement, adding that it should be scrapped.
00:21He said legislation designed to simplify the job of law enforcement at the expense of human
00:26rights is no law at all.
00:28On Wednesday, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the government was considering
00:33the possibility of allowing bail for certain offences under SOSMA.
00:38SOSMA currently imposes a blanket no-bail rule for most offences, except in cases involving
00:43women, minors or individuals who are sick.
00:47However, Ramasamy said such reasoning stood in stark contrast with the stance taken by
00:52Pakatan Harapan during its time in the opposition, when it had called for the repeal of SOSMA
00:57or for offences to be made bailable.
