Should there be more traffic enforcement measures for roads to prevent speeding?

The RAC has revealed that almost half of UK police forces have caught motorists driving over 90mph on 30mph roads.

00:00When it comes to Britain's roads there are a range of driver behaviours which lead to fatalities.

00:08In fact, the National Police Chiefs Council has coined the term the fatal four in order to describe

00:14the main causes for fatal accidents on UK roads. Now the fatal four includes speeding which is the

00:23biggest cause for fatal road accidents in the UK. It also includes driving when under the influence

00:29of alcohol or drugs which is the second biggest reason for accidents in the UK. Not wearing a

00:36seat belt and driving while using a mobile phone are also recorded in the list. As a result of this

00:43understanding the RAC has since campaigned for the government to focus on avoidable road casualties

00:51in the UK's road safety strategy. RAC road safety spokesperson Rod Dennis has said that

00:59it's concerning that our research indicates speeding becoming so commonplace because the

01:05consequences can be severe. He added that the government is working on the country's first

01:10road safety strategy for many years so we hope that tackling this will be treated as a priority.

01:16In fact, further data from the RAC has found that excessive speeding is now commonplace on all UK

01:23roads. This comes after it was found that eight in ten drivers say they regularly see people speeding

01:29on all types of roads. The RAC found that speed limit compliance saw the sharpest increase on

01:3620 miles per hour roads while almost half of drivers speed over the limit. Furthermore,

01:42drivers have admitted to speeding on motorways more often than on any other type of road. So

01:48according to the RAC, speed cameras use either markings on the road or radar technology

01:54in order to identify a vehicle and record its speed.
