00:05hearings of his criminal trial on charges of insurrection following his declaration of
00:10martial law last December. The hearing, which took place at the Seoul Central District Court,
00:16aimed to clarify the facts in dispute and plan future legal procedures. Although South Korean
00:22law does not require the accused to attend a preliminary hearing, Yun chose to do so.
00:27He has been detained since January 15 amid a criminal investigation into the alleged crime
00:32of insurrection for briefly declaring martial law in early December. The penalty for insurrection
00:39in South Korea is life imprisonment or capital punishment, for which there has been a moratorium
00:46since 1997.
