00:15Yoon. Masterminding an insurrection carries a maximum sentence of the death penalty or
00:20life imprisonment under South Korean law. South Korea last handed down a death sentence in 2016
00:26but has not executed anyone since 1997. The verdict, released February 19, marks the most
00:33significant outcome for the ousted leader. Yoon faces eight trial proceedings and was given a
00:38five-year jail sentence in January in a separate trial on charges including obstructing attempts
00:43by authorities to arrest him following his martial law declaration. He has appealed that ruling.
