Thanks for joining me for your evening weather update from the Met Office. The
00:04
weather's definitely changed. Milder air has moved in and that's brought with it
00:09
cloud and rain. We've seen some pulses of rain across the country already and
00:13
another band of rain becoming pretty widespread through this evening. Some
00:16
heavier rain at times for Northern Ireland this evening and that heavier
00:19
rain spreading into Scotland and across Northern England. It's getting a bit lighter
00:23
and more patchy through the night but overall an overcast night, a breezy
00:27
night and for many a damp night. And it is going to be a mild night. In fact
00:32
turning milder as we go through the night. If we rewind the clock and put the
00:36
temperatures on, just watch as the rain moves in the temperature actually start
00:41
to tick up so that yeah we could dip down to three or four degrees in the
00:45
east for a time through the evening but by the time we start Thursday we're up
00:49
at seven or eight Celsius and many western areas will start the day in
00:53
double figures. So it starts quite mild but it doesn't feel that mild because it's
00:58
still pretty breezy particularly in the west and it is cloudy with outbreaks of
01:02
rain. That rain likes to be pretty heavy through the morning across Northern
01:05
Ireland. Brighter colours there then work into Western Scotland. Northwest England
01:10
seeing some heavier pulse of rain along with North Wales. Eastern England may
01:13
start dry. Some showery rain that does work in here particularly for Kent and
01:18
Essex. Something a bit brighter then develops for Wales. Northwest England
01:22
come the end of the day. It cheers up for a time across Scotland and Northern
01:25
Ireland but then more showers come packing in here because it will be quite
01:29
a blustery and gusty day around these western coasts even though we should see
01:34
some sunny spells developing. We'll certainly see the temperatures ticking up. Look at
01:37
that 13, 14 degrees. We could even see 15 perhaps even close to 16 degrees in one
01:44
or two spots. That's a lot milder than it has been. Now this chart shows how the
01:48
temperatures change over 24 hours and you can see that milder air really
01:54
moving in and temperatures by Thursday afternoon some six degrees above the
02:01
average for many central and northern parts having been a few degrees below
02:04
average for about most of February. So yes it's turning milder but there'll
02:09
still be plenty of showers around across Scotland, Northern England during
02:12
Thursday evening. For many though it will turn drier for a time but look at this
02:17
another batch of wet and increasingly windy weather comes in during Friday. The
02:22
winds getting really quite gusty around these western coasts. The west coast of
02:25
Wales, east coast of Northern Ireland through the early hours of Friday morning
02:30
but again those winds are coming up from the south so they're bringing mild air so
02:34
many will stay in double digits into Friday morning. But Friday is a wet and a
02:38
windy day for quite a few of us. Heavy pulses of rain and those gusty winds
02:43
as I talked about the west coast of Wales, the east coast of Northern Ireland,
02:46
southwestern parts of Scotland. There's a warning in place and there's also a
02:49
rain warning across parts of Scotland because for some here stays very wet
02:53
throughout the day. Pulses of rain further south again much of eastern
02:57
England probably not seeing too much in Northern Ireland may well turn brighter
03:01
but still blustery with a few showers. And look at the numbers again for many
03:05
of us getting into the teens 15 or perhaps even 16 at Celsius. Again
03:10
perhaps not feeling as mild as those numbers would suggest because of the
03:14
strength of the wind. And there's more wet and windy weather to come. Low
03:18
pressure continues to dominate moved in from the Atlantic change things up and
03:23
then another one comes in for Saturday night and into Sunday. Saturday looks a
03:27
lot drier certainly many western areas compared to Friday but by Sunday
03:31
another deep low, another weather front, more closely packed isobar so more wet
03:36
and windy weather is on the cards. Keep up to date with the Met Office weather
03:40
warnings there on the app and on the website and for more details about the
03:43
weekend and beyond check out the 10-day trend you can see that on our YouTube
