00:00Good evening, it's Mark Atkinson, Sports Editor of the Scotsman here, recapping a pretty eventful

00:08night in the Champions League for the Scottish champions, Celtic, who have bowed out of Europe's

00:15premier competition but with their heads held extremely high. Many gave them very little

00:21chance this evening against German giants Bayern Munich, especially trailing 2-1 from

00:27the first leg in Glasgow in their play-off tie for the Champions League last 16. However,

00:32Celtic put in one of their greatest, if not the greatest, away performances in the competition

00:37from the Scottish side, leading 1-0 right until the very last attack of the game. Nicholas

00:43Kuhn had put in a head just after the hour mark, converting it, who dies in Maida, had

00:48scampered on to a loose pass. It was the least Celtic deserved. They created lots of chances

00:52in the first half but didn't take them. Finally got their noses in front, put in a defensively

00:56diligent performance, excellent press throughout and, to be honest, looked like they would

01:02more than earn their extra time until the 94th minute. A cross comes in from Celtic's

01:08left-hand side. Leo Gareth's header is really well saved by Kasper Schmeichel but Karajan

01:13Carter, Dickerson's clearance, cannoned off Alphonso Davies and squirmed into the net.

01:18Bayern Munich got an equaliser and with that goal coming in the final minute of stoppage

01:22time, there was no time for Celtic to regroup and they are out of the Champions League at

01:28the play-off phase. A real sickener, the most brutal way for a commendable Champions League

01:34campaign to end. Celtic can certainly hold their heads high given how well they've regrouped

01:40and basically grown and matured from losing 7-1 to Borussia Dortmund earlier in the competition.

01:48That was their previous trip to Germany. Back then, it felt fanciful that Celtic would

01:53be competing with Bayern Munich at this stage but Brendan Rodgers, their manager, has found

01:59a way to get this team playing better in Europe and they certainly have shown they belong

02:05at this stage of the tournament. They've drawn away at Atalanta, drawn away at Bayern Munich,

02:10drawn away at Zagreb and taken care of business at home against teams like Young Boys Burn

02:15and RB Leipzig. The challenge now, I suppose, for Rodgers is to make sure his team can maintain

02:21that level for the rest of the season as they strive to win a treble domestically and then

02:26have enough in the tank to be at the sharp end of the Champions League once more because next

02:31season the Scottish champions, and you have to think that Celtic will be that, given their 13

02:35points clean in Premiership, will have to go through a qualifier to get you into the main phase.

02:41And that, of course, comes with its own pressure. A high-stakes match indeed. For now, Celtic can

02:47take great pride in how they performed in Bavaria. They are out of the Champions League

02:52and in the most savage of circumstances, really, and it'll be fascinating to see how they

02:59obviously rebuild but in terms of a restructure of this team, enhancement of this team happens

03:04in the summer. That's what Rodgers said afterwards in his post-match interview.

03:07We can't stand still here. We have to keep growing. In the end, it was a maybe slightly

03:12familiar tale of Scottish football. A great performance. Celtic went down fighting but

03:17they are out of the Champions League after a 1-1 draw in Bavaria against Bayern Munich.
