Wendy Williams was all about family bonding, spotted reuniting with her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., in Miami ... despite her belief he’d financially taken advantage of her.

00:00We have been telling you about Wendy Williams.

00:02We dropped a documentary, which is on Tubi,

00:05which essentially shows Wendy confined to a room

00:09and has been for months and months and months.

00:11At the assisted living facility.

00:12She had freedom this weekend.

00:14She went from New York to Miami.

00:16That's her at Miami International Airport

00:19after she arrived to celebrate her dad's 94th birthday.

00:23And it was very interesting to see her out in public

00:27like this for the first time in a long time.

00:31And to see and hear the reaction of people,

00:35of fans seeing her in the airport.

00:37It was, and Wendy reacting to some of it.

00:40She didn't say much, but she's definitely hearing

00:44what people were saying to her.

00:45And, you know, they're walking away saying,

00:49oh my God, it's the old Wendy Williams.

00:51She's in that scooter, by the way,

00:53because she has lymphedema,

00:55which makes it difficult for her to walk.

00:57To walk long distances.

00:58You know, she got it.

00:59Got the lymphedema?

01:00High heels.

01:01She got it from high heels.

01:02And, warning, and she is,

01:08she's not really confined to it.

01:10She can, in fact, she could walk short distances, but.

01:13In the documentary, she stood for over an hour.

01:15Right.

01:16By the window.

01:17Still walking through Miami Airport.

01:18So she celebrated her dad's birthday,

01:22but she also spent time with her son, Kevin.

01:27Which we were anticipating.

01:29In fact, you had spoken to her about this,

01:31that once she got to Miami, would she see Kevin Jr.?

01:35And she did.

01:36Had a very nice lunch with him.

01:38She said that, I think Wendy wanted to make it clear,

01:40she loves her son.

01:42But, obviously, the contentious part of their relationship

01:45is that, allegedly, the things he did

01:48is part of why she ended up in this guardianship

01:50to begin with.

01:51We talked about this at some length in the documentary.

01:54My son, you know, he overstepped his boundaries

01:58in terms of me, you understand?

02:00He overstepped his boundaries,

02:02and he was inappropriately using my money

02:07without telling me crap about it.

02:10You know, like, is he stealing from me?

02:13That's when my money got frozen at Wells Fargo, thank God.

02:16No more money stealing from my son and the other people.

02:20He has a way of getting with, you know,

02:24a couple of other people, you know what I'm saying?

02:26My son is not the only one, you know what I'm saying,

02:28involved with my money.

02:30So, Kevin denies misappropriating.

02:33The judge said he had made a lot of mistakes

02:36when it came to, or apologized for things

02:38he had done with her money,

02:39and that the judge did not trust him

02:42to handle it in the future.

02:43Right.

02:44But, obviously, they were, at least,

02:48on good enough terms to enjoy lunch together,

02:51and I imagine he's gonna be at the birthday party as well.

02:54Well, the birthday party was yesterday.

02:56Right, he was at the party, right.

02:57The birthday party was yesterday.

02:58That lunch was separate, that was not the birthday party.

03:00Right, and she's on her way back today

03:02from Miami to New York, where she is going to go back

03:06to this assisted living facility, to the memory unit,

03:11and we told you that she's already signed an affidavit

03:15asking that the guardianship end,

03:17hasn't been filed with the court yet,

03:19we expect it will be soon.

03:20It's an important moment for her, right,

03:22that she got out, she comported herself very well,

03:24seemed to have a nice time,

03:25seemed to be as lucid as we've ever seen her.

03:29Really important, right?

03:30I mean, there was always a little bit of a risk,

03:32something might go wrong that might reinforce

03:35some of the beliefs that the facility had about her,

03:37and that the guardians had about her,

03:39so it's really a great thing to see her doing so well.

03:41You know, Jason, the one thing I was thinking about,

03:44and I'm not suggesting it,

03:46but if she just stayed in Miami,

03:50I don't think the New York court system

03:51would have any jurisdiction over her,

03:53because you can only extradite somebody if it's a felony,

03:56and this isn't even a criminal matter, it's a civil matter.

04:00So she wants to live in New York, she said that,

04:03and I have no idea whether that even entered her mind,

04:06but it just occurred to me when I watched the video there.

04:10Imagine if she was on the lam from the memory facility,

04:13that would be some sort of turn of events.

04:16Speaking of the memory facility, we have a new recording.

04:19Yes, some answers as to why Wendy is being confined

04:24on the floor of this memory care unit

04:27at the assisted living facility.

04:29It just never made sense, even when you were talking to her,

04:31and she doesn't, in the documentary,

04:33didn't seem to understand why she was there.

04:36We have some answers now, and it has to do with alcohol,

04:39and Wendy's incident when she first moved into this place,

04:45that there's a bar on one of the floors, on the top floor.

04:49It's a bar restaurant, and this is just a few days

04:53after she checked in there.

04:55They had put her on the third floor, we're told.

04:58Where you can come and go.

04:59Where you can come and go, and again,

05:01we got this from somebody who works there,

05:04who has firsthand knowledge of a lot of this stuff.

05:07And actually, we have a second source as well on this thing.

05:10And she went up to the restaurant,

05:13and we are told she got drunk.

05:16And when that happened, the supervisors were furious

05:21that the bartender allowed her to drink,

05:24because we've told you she.

05:25This was at a time when Wendy had issues with alcohol.

05:28And clearly, the staff at the assisted,

05:31or at least the managers,

05:33knew this at the assisted living facility.

05:35They were furious that she even served.

05:37So they decided at that point, we're told,

05:40to put her in the fifth floor memory unit,

05:44because that unit, you can't get in the elevator

05:48without somebody turning the key, who works on the floor.

05:52And they needed to keep tabs on her.

05:54The problem was the memory unit was full,

05:56and they kept her on the third floor until it opened up.

06:00But when they kept her on the third floor

06:02after that incident, they had a guard standing by her room,

06:06and telling her that the restaurant's under construction,

06:09you can't go up there.

06:10So the solution was putting her in the memory unit,

06:14even though her memory,

06:15according to one employee in particular,

06:19and by the way, I spoke with her a bunch of times.

06:21Right, this is what you had been saying.

06:22But the employee is saying,

06:25Wendy does not have good days or bad days.

06:26As the guardian had said, that was their response.

06:30That's right, that she's the same all the time.

06:35And you can tell her something today,

06:38and two weeks later, she'll remember it.

06:40So she's in the memory unit, and you know, it is-

06:44But not because of the frontotemporal dementia.

06:47Right, because if it were from the dementia,

06:50they would have put her there from the jump.

06:52Right. And they didn't.

06:55I think in light of this new information,

06:58it's good to see Wendy Williams out and about,

07:00enjoying time with her family.

07:02And maybe they'll look into this and give her a chance.

07:04Maybe she was scared,

07:05and that's why she turned to the alcohol.

07:08But I, for one, am somebody rooting for Wendy Williams

07:10to get back on her feet.

07:11And it's good to see her back out

07:13with her family and friends.

07:14Yeah, but short-lived.

07:15It was a 48-hour pass.

07:18You look at it, and you go like,

07:19oh, that's so nice for her.

07:20But then you also remember,

07:22that's gonna be over in 48 hours.

07:23And in a way, it's even more difficult,

07:25because it reminds her what life can be like,

07:28and then she goes back into this facility.

07:30So it's tough.

07:31We'll see how long it takes.
