Sam Chambers shines on Leeds debut despite loss

Daniel Wales and Lee Sobot analyse Sam Chambers’ Leeds United debut.

00:00You mentioned before, Sun, and they do have another game, we'll get to that in a moment,

00:03but just firstly, we wanted to mention a 17-year-old kid who, of course, played

00:08in the game against Millwall, Sam Chambers. As I understand, they're very young,

00:12playing his trade in the youth team, but was given his chance against Millwall. How did he do?

00:18They thought he did really, really well. I mean, we were all sort of speculating about the team

00:21beforehand, and there were a lot of changes that were obvious, you know, that you just knew would

00:24happen, i.e. Matteo Joseph started up front, like Ramazani coming in non-so, people like that.

00:30But I mean, people like Sam Chambers, I kind of thought he might be on the bench and maybe come

00:35on towards the end of this game, but no, straight into the starting line-up for his full debut,

00:41he'd only played 16 minutes before, I think it was, in the game against Plymouth. So,

00:45a massive occasion for him, and did very, very well. In a way, I'm not surprised,

00:49because when he's been involved in squads before, and he watched the warm-ups and stuff like that,

00:53he really puts himself about. He's a really energetic player, you can tell he's enthusiastic,

00:57wants to get the ball, like, you know, whether it's in the game, as I say, or in the warm-ups,

01:00wants to make an impression on things. And that's what he did in the game, and I don't know about

01:04man of the match, I mean, maybe, I mean, nobody else really stood out particularly. So, I mean,

01:08not bad at all at 17 years old, you know, to come on and make a big impression like that.

01:13There were moments, as Daniel Farker said afterwards, that he could have done better,

01:15but I mean, that's obviously going to be the case when you're coming into the team

01:18at 17 years of age. I mean, he probably should have scored, really, had a great chance to create

01:22what would have been a massive moment for him when he put one over the bar from the edge of the box.

01:27It was interesting that Daniel Farker said afterwards that normally those sort of chances,

01:3010 times out of 10, he puts them away in training. So that's pretty big praise from Daniel Farker,

01:34and he obviously thinks a lot of him. You know, look, it's very, very early steps, isn't it?

01:39Quite literally baby steps, you know, the lad's still a kid and stuff at 17. And he's sort of

01:43one that, like, obviously, given the abundance of wingers that Leeds have got, quite how many more

01:47minutes he'll get, you know, between now and the end of the season. But there's no doubt that he's

01:50a talented young player, made things happen, looks pacey, looks skillful. So, you know,

01:55they've definitely got a good one coming through the ranks there. And obviously, you never know

01:58these young players, how quickly they develop, you know, what the ceiling is, how they can move on.

02:02But all you do is, all you can do is look at that performance and sort of say to him, you know,

02:06well done on a very good, you know, full debut for Leeds. And hopefully we'll see more of him

02:10soon because they've definitely got, you know, a decent young player on their hands there.

02:14And hopefully the future is bright for him.
