00:00DAP veteran members have alleged the existence of a deep state within the leadership, aimed
00:07at undermining the influence of Chairman Lim Kwan-ying and his team.
00:12The group said the move was reminiscent of the infamous kick-out Kit-siang campaign in
00:18the late 90s, which sought an attempt to remove DAP stalwart Lim Kit-siang following the party's
00:25disastrous performance in the 1995 general election.
00:30Veteran DAP grassroots leader S. Nila Makin said some leaders appear to have lost sight
00:36of its original struggles and are being influenced by certain outside forces in their efforts
00:42to oust Kwan-ying from the leadership.
00:46He said the presence of a deep state within the party is obvious as there appears to be
00:51an organized movement to get delegates to embarrass Kwan-ying.
00:56He said an incident at a gathering in Penang to honor Kit-siang's service to the party
01:02has given rise to talk that there is an open feud between Kwan-ying's group and another
01:07led by Penang DAP chairman Stephen Sim.
01:12Nila Makin said DAP needs the combination of Kwan-ying, Secretary-General Luk Su-fok
01:18and Vice-Chairman Ngaw Kor-ming to clean up the party as many junior leaders are trying
01:24to betray the leaders who built DAP.
01:27He also warned that if external forces gain control of DAP, the party would risk losing
01:33its principles and its commitment to justice.
