00:00Good afternoon from Anfield where Wolverhampton Wanderers have just suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Liverpool.
00:07The Premier League title favourites Liverpool of course, you'd expect them to win here at Anfield but the performance from Wolves in the first half
00:14was really disappointing and gave Vitor Pereira's side a mountain to climb.
00:17I must say the second period was much better, a real improvement, but you can't be having Jekyll and Hyde performances and expecting to get three points.
00:25Liverpool, very clinical in that first half, got the lead they needed. Wolves, as I say, in the second period did respond, got themselves back in the game
00:33through Mateus Cunha scoring a beautiful goal in the second half, but in the end it's not enough, the efforts.
00:39It was just really sloppy defensively to be honest with you. Toti Gomez who's been so good since coming back into the side from injury
00:46with a very poor clearance attempt in the 15th minute, scuffing the ball back into the dangerous zone and Luis Diaz was quickest to react.
00:54Jose Sarr, the Wolves goalkeeper, should have done better as he completely failed to anticipate the ball coming into the area
01:01and then Diaz was just allowed far too easily to kind of chest the ball instantly.
01:06It was a bit of a strange goal the way it went in, but Liverpool didn't care as they got their lead and a deserved lead as well.
01:11And then midway through the first half Mohamed Salah made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
01:16So devastatingly clinical from the spot as always was Mo Salah, but it shouldn't have been conceived in the first place from Wolves.
01:22So, so poor on their part. A back pass sloppily from Nelson Samedo.
01:27Then Agbidu trying to clear the ball away under pressure from Diaz, completely missed the ball.
01:32Diaz swept in, got him behind and then Jose Sarr completely took him out.
01:36So, a clear penalty and converted. At that point you're thinking, well, no way back into the game for Wolves, 2-0 down.
01:43And well, it was nearly three at the start of the second period.
01:47Mohamed Salah going through from Trent Alexander, Arnold through ball, curling into the far corner, the linesman's flag coming to Wolves' rescue.
01:55And then a penalty given again. Salah thought he'd be able to get a second goal, another opportunity.
02:00It was overturned by VAR. Agbidu, with a really poorly timed challenge on Jota, very lucky not to make contact with Jota.
02:07He kind of skipped away from him and dived. So it was overturned by VAR.
02:11A big relief. What wasn't relief though was Agbidu going off through injury.
02:15He should be a big miss because he's been such a key player, albeit not great today.
02:19But then Matthias Kuhnje scoring a beautiful curled goal to get Wolves back into the game about midway through that second period.
02:26Kind of out of nowhere really. Wolves haven't really done too much.
02:29Martial Monezzi had one opportunity off the bench at half-time within a few minutes.
02:33But other than that, Liverpool looked dominant. Kuhnje though getting a fantastic goal.
02:37A lovely bit of skill from Jean-Ric Nivellegaard to flick the ball behind him, give Kuhnje space.
02:42Kuhnje still had a lot to do though as he flicked the ball past Liverpool midfielder and curled into that far corner.
02:47So clinical as always, the Brazilian.
02:50Wolves from that point actually probably looked the more likely team to score again.
02:54And Liverpool were holding on at times.
02:56But Liverpool, as always, were pretty solid defensively.
02:59Van Dijk and Canate in the first half.
03:02And then Bonza coming on in the second half making a few really important tackles.
03:06Alisson making a couple of important saves as well.
03:08And Wolves unable to find a second way through.
03:11So it is defeat here at Anfield.
03:13But plenty of positives to take from the second half.
03:15Plenty to learn from the first half as Wolves try and escape relegation from the Premier League.
