00:00Well, I'm here to talk about the work that I've been doing for the oceans
00:04through my organization that I founded, Lonely Whale,
00:08as well as with the UN Environment Program,
00:12and just generally as a citizen, as a human being.
00:23I'm not an alarmist, personally.
00:25I don't think it's productive to try and prove that it's happening or not.
00:31I look at it as a much deeper opportunity for people to improve their life
00:39and create a world that is better than one that creates a lot of pollution
00:44and a lot of damage to the planet.
00:47And it's not necessarily about saving ourselves.
00:51I think, you know, as a spiritual person,
00:54I think it's beyond us to know what saving is.
00:58I think it's a matter of just living every day as humbly and as honestly
01:04and as awake as possible.
01:10I don't get involved in the noise of politics.
01:14A lot of times politicians are looking to adopt a policy
01:18or say something that just gets them elected
01:21or earns favor with the population or to keep power.
01:26For me, I'm more interested in really meeting people
01:30and helping to bring together a theory of change and a way of living
01:37that elevates society beyond what politicians say.
01:43When we pollute the ocean and when we pollute the environment,
01:48at the end of the day, it makes for a less positive human experience
01:54and also for the animals.
01:56If you look around and you see whales washing up on shore
02:00with plastic in their belly,
02:02I think it's a sign that we could do things better.
02:05It's a lot harder to actually do the right thing every day
02:08and to work hard for others, not yourself, to be less selfish.
02:14But when I look out into the world, I see the environment.
02:17It's not the environment, it's life itself.
02:20I have a passion to create life.
02:24And when you see the destruction that some of our bad behavior
02:28and our ignorance creates,
02:30it can't help but break your heart.
02:33When I started Lonely Whale, I was inspired by the voice of a whale.
02:38It doesn't speak the same language as other whales.
02:41He speaks a different frequency.
02:43He speaks 52 hertz when other whales speak 15 to 20 hertz.
02:47So this animal, who's highly sentient, very social,
02:51has been calling out his whole life with out-of-body experiences.
02:55Who's highly sentient, very social, has been calling out his whole life
02:59without receiving a response from other whales.
03:02But you know what, he can't communicate with others of his kind, other whales.
03:07But he can communicate with me, and I can hear him in my heart.
03:10So all you have to do really, I think, is look out into the world
03:14and let yourself be overwhelmed with the awesome power of nature and life.
03:19And you can't help but want to do better.
03:25LONELY WHALE
