Schwarzenegger hails Pope Leo as 'action hero' as pair urge global climate solution  Pope Leo was praised as an "action hero" by Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday, October 1, for his environmental leadership, including a directive to install solar panels across Vatican rooftops. Speaking at a climate-focused event in Castel Gandolfo, the pope's summer residence, Schwarzenegger invoked his iconic role from The Terminator to rally support for climate action. “We can go and terminate pollution. We can go and wipe it out,” he said. The actor was throwing his weight behind Pope Leo's efforts to encourage world leaders to address global climate change and transition away from fossil fuels. 00:17Now, you're laughing because he doesn't look maybe like one,

00:21like you see in the movies with the muscles and with the guns and all that stuff.

00:26But the reason why I call him an action hero is because as soon as he became the Pope,

00:30he ordered the Vatican to put solar panels on top of the buildings.

00:38Think about that.

00:39This will be one of the first states very soon to be carbon neutral.

00:45So let's give them a big hand for this great, great action.

00:51We can go and terminate pollution.

00:54We can go and wipe it out.

00:56If we all work together, if we all work together because God put us on this, in this earth,

01:04by leaving this earth a better place than we inherited it.

01:11So let's do it.

01:14But I would like to add that if there is indeed an action hero with us this afternoon,

01:24it's all of you who are working together to make a difference.

01:29Pope Francis emphasized that the most effective solutions will not come from individual efforts

01:43alone, but above all, from major political decisions on the national and international

01:49levels.

01:50It is my hope that the upcoming international summits of the United Nations, the 2025 Climate

01:57Change Conference, COP30, the 53rd plenary session of the Committee on World Food Security,

02:05and the 2026 Water Conference will listen to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor,

02:12families, indigenous peoples, involuntary migrants, and believers throughout the world.
