00:00Here in Barangiri Respite Centre, not only do we offer clients an opportunity to have

00:09an overnight stay, but also the opportunity to access our day centre.

00:14I was really impressed with how upbeat Mum was about coming here.

00:19So she came twice a week, you know, Mondays and Fridays.

00:23You liked all the games and the outing.

00:26I loved everything, everything, yeah.

00:29Basically, the only rules in day centre is just kindness and compassion.

00:34They don't treat you as an older person, do they?

00:38That's right.

00:39No, no.

00:40And you're pretty old.

00:41Yeah.

00:42Well.

00:43If you ask anyone to do something, say I had a splinter, and they said, oh I can't do that

00:50because of so-and-so, they would make sure that they put me in the hands of someone that

00:55could do it.

00:56That's wonderful.

00:57They're just so nice.

00:59I just love them all.

01:00And that is honest.

01:01I'm not just saying that.

01:02I really do.

01:03I just love them all.

01:04I literally designed the program around our clients.

01:06Easy to come up with a good activity program if you actually listen to your clients.

01:11The entertainment they would have.

01:13Oh, the entertainment was exceptional.

01:15For things like this sun room, you know, and you get to look out into the garden.

01:19Mum was an avid gardener years ago, and she loved being out there.

01:23We've had high tea in the courtyard here, and they had farm animals come out here into

01:28the courtyard.

01:29So lovely.

01:30It was lovely.

01:32And they really try and accommodate what the elderly people like.

01:37We do provide an overnight stay.

01:39Our minimum stay is seven nights, just to make sure that they settle and they're happy

01:44being in a different environment.

01:46Transitioning into respite, it gives my husband and I a break where I'm not stressed or worried.

01:53So we're able to have a proper respite ourselves.

01:58For mum, it's like she's the only one here, and they just look after her.

02:02They still have access to the day centre, and mum's 91, and they're still able to care

02:07for her.

02:08I mean, you know.

02:09Quiet.

02:13I'm always conscious of what she's eating, and dietary things change, and they're always

02:19willing to listen here, and they adapt accordingly, which is important, because mum's a diabetic.

02:24She does need food at certain times, and they make sure she has that, even just a cracker

02:29with a cup of tea or something like that.

02:33He calls it holiday camp.

02:34Yes, it is.

02:35It's like a holiday camp.

02:37It's not such an institution.

02:39You know, it's not a really big formal institution.

02:42They let the dog come and visit in the garden.

02:45She's just confident here, and I think that's what's important.

02:48And I'm confident that she gets the care here, because I'm pretty strict about my mum.

02:56It's nice to know that I've got somewhere nice to fall back on if needed.

03:02To know that you would be in a place that would know what to do for everything that

03:07I was going through at the time is a delight.

03:11If you want your elderly parent or loved one to have exceptional care, you can't go past

03:20It's a happy place.
