00:09Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump leveled sharp and personal charges over trade, the US economy,
00:16race and foreign policy in their first face-to-face debate, an event that put on display their
00:22starkly different personalities and visions of the future.
00:26In the first question, posed by moderator Lester Holt at the Hofstra University in New
00:31York, the debate devolved into an exchange of accusations as Trump and Clinton reached
00:37into the other's past statements and records. While both candidates claimed victory after
00:42the debate, financial markets were judging it in favour of Clinton.
00:47Saudi Arabia last night cut the salaries of cabinet ministers by 20 per cent and froze
00:52the wages of lower-ranking civil servants in an intensified austerity drive to cope
00:58with lower oil revenues. While ministers will have lower salaries, the 160 members of the
01:05Shura Council will see a 15 per cent drop in their annual allowances for housing, furniture
01:11and cars, a royal decree has said. Frontline soldiers on the southern border with Yemen
01:16will be exempt from a ruling not to grant the military an annual bonus.
01:22Construction at the Expo 2020 site in Dubai's South District has formally commenced, with
01:28the first of four infrastructure sections underway. The first section of infrastructure
01:33projects involves work on the Expo Village, where participants will reside during the
01:38Expo period. All infrastructure work is expected to be completed by October 2019.
01:45Leif Schreiber and Naomi Watts are separating after 11 years together. The celebrity couple
01:51said in a joint statement Monday they have come to the conclusion that the best way forward
01:56for us as a family is to separate as a couple. Schreiber and Watts, who have been together
02:02since 2005, have two children and are not married.
