American far-right activist and vocal supporter of Donald Trump, Laura Loomer, on Saturday issued an apology at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi over some of her past anti-India social media remarks that had sparked intense criticism for being racist and offensive.

Addressing the issue during the Conclave, she acknowledged that some of her remarks were inappropriate and expressed regret over certain tweets. “I should not have said some of the things I wrote in the other tweets,” she said, though she maintained that she stood by her opposition to the H-1B visa programme, arguing that it disadvantages American workers.

Loomer insisted that she does not harbour hostility towards India or Hindus and said she has often spoken in support of Hindus globally against what she called radical Islamist persecution.

The controversy resurfaced after Loomer announced on X that she would be attending the Conclave in India, prompting users to circulate her earlier posts and triggering a wave of backlash online.

00:00There have been certain tweets, Laura, which, because you're in India right now.
00:04And you know what you've done, and let me say this, it's a feat.
00:08Because by the virtue of those tweets, you've done the impossible.
00:11You've got the left in India and the right in India come together and being uncomfortable
00:16with those tweets.
00:17So in that way, you know, there's a lot to thank you because that rarely ever happens
00:20in India.
00:21But they've come together in the criticism, Laura, of some of your tweets earlier.
00:26You've deleted most of them on what you perceive is your image of India and Indians.
00:33Do you regret it?
00:35Do you?
00:35Because you deleted them.
00:36So that's why I ask you.
00:38Well, Twitter deleted some of them.
00:40I had no choice but to delete some of them because Twitter actually locked my account,
00:44believe it or not.
00:45In the aftermath of that, they actually, you know, restricted my account in December.
00:50This is what I'll say.
00:51I'm not going to apologize for my comments about the H-1B visa program because my job
00:57is to speak for Americans and to stand up for American interests.
01:01And our immigration laws have been exploited and abused.
01:05And our labor laws have also been exploited and abused.
01:09And I'm going to continue being an advocate and a fighter for American workers who are struggling
01:15to find employment because they're told they are not the best and the brightest in a field,
01:21right, in Silicon Valley in tech that is dominated by over 70% imported foreign labor,
01:27mostly from China and India.
01:29What I will say is that I shouldn't have said some of the things that I said in the other
01:36tweets.
01:36It's not about H-1B, and I apologize if my remarks offended people.
01:41And I'm here in India this week, and I'm spending several days in India where I'm going to be,
01:47you know, traveling the country.
01:48I'm very excited to be here.
01:50Everybody's been, you know, very friendly.
01:51I'm very happy to be able to experience India myself.
01:55But I will say I don't have hatred in my heart for India or Hindu people.
01:59I'm an advocate for Hindus.
02:01I speak out against the brutality of Islam that has persecuted millions of Hindus around
02:06the world.
02:07And I don't come from a place of hatred.
02:11My comments come from a place of love for my people and my country.
