00:00
weather. And we'll be back
00:01
with more on that. Coming up
00:03
in just a few minutes. All
00:04
right. Thanks for joining me
00:05
right now is Accuweather chief
00:07
meteorologist Jonathan Porter
00:09
and you and the long range
00:11
team were warning us back at
00:14
the beginning of the wintertime.
00:16
Watch out for February that it
00:16
was going to be a busy, busy
00:17
weather pattern and all you
00:21
have to do. This know that that
00:22
forecast was nailed is look at
00:24
the satellite here right now.
00:26
Yeah, our team identified that
00:27
ahead of others. All other
00:28
weather patterns are going to
00:31
be a little bit different, but
00:32
we're going to be a little bit
00:33
different on the satellite. The
00:35
storms are lining right up like
00:36
a parade. Here's the first one
00:38
of moving out toward the East
00:39
Coast today. Storm number two
00:40
in the Southwest and then look
00:43
out in California. You showed
00:44
what was going on in San
00:46
Francisco. Calm now, but this
00:47
is going to be a big storm here
00:48
as we make our way through the
00:50
next couple of days. All these
00:51
storms impactful the first one
00:52
impacting mostly the mid
00:53
Atlantic, but parts of the
00:56
Midwest, but. Take a look at
00:59
this. This is a big storm.
01:01
This is going to be a big storm
01:03
tomorrow, but it's a large area
01:06
of disruptive snow in the
01:07
central part of the country. It
01:08
sure is in places that haven't
01:10
had a lot of snow. Omaha yet
01:12
this season, Omaha over toward
01:13
Des Moines and even up toward
01:15
Chicago. So a lot of blue with
01:16
the snow there and I see mix in
01:17
between in places like
01:20
Indianapolis. Over toward
01:21
pencil parts of Pennsylvania
01:23
and heavy rain flash flooding
01:25
concerns across the south, and
01:26
we want to highlight down in
01:28
the middle of this area. So
01:29
that's going to be a big
01:30
concern. But we're going to be
01:31
able to see that there can be a
01:33
flooding problem there. All
01:34
right. Let's go to the West
01:35
Coast. Here's our last storm,
01:38
John. And you know, I have the
01:40
storm circled. But what what is
01:41
really telling is the amount of
01:43
moisture on the southeastern
01:45
flank of that highlighted area
01:47
that really stands out. When
01:48
you look at this map, look at
01:49
all of these yellows and reds
01:50
here. These are really high
01:53
cloud tops. In the atmosphere,
01:54
and this is associated with a
01:56
lot of rain. So we're going to
01:58
see a lot of rain. We're going
01:59
to see a lot of flash flooding
02:01
and the one hand is good news
02:02
because we need the rain, but
02:03
it just can't come too fast too
02:06
furious. That's we get into
02:07
some serious flash flooding
02:09
concerns, especially near the
02:10
burn scars. Yeah, we're looking
02:12
at about 2 to 4 inches of rain
02:14
in Los Angeles. Now short term
02:16
pain, John, this is going to
02:17
cause flooding, but long term
02:19
gain. We do have a short term
02:21
drought across Southern
02:22
California. We do so the rain
02:24
is helpful toward that. But
02:24
what's going to be particularly
02:26
concerning is the risk for
02:27
severe weather. We spoke with
02:29
the chief meteorologist and
02:30
severe weather expert Billy
02:32
Clark in our Wichita Severe
02:33
Weather Center yesterday, and
02:34
he was commenting about the
02:36
risk for thunderstorms here
02:38
associated with this storm, and
02:38
that could result in rain rates
02:41
of a half inch. To one inch per
02:43
hour. That's when life
02:44
threatening flash flooding and
02:45
mudslides can occur, especially
02:47
near those burn scars. And then
02:49
there we go into the Northeast.
02:50
More problems and then Midwest
02:52
and Northeast John really
02:53
quickly. The combination of all
02:55
of those things. It's going to
02:57
be a very, very severe storm,
02:58
and it's going to be a very
02:59
severe storm. Bernie is a well
03:00
in the coming days that those
03:00
delays can spread across the
03:04
country. All right, Accuweather
03:05
chief meteorologist Jonathan
03:06
Porter. Thanks for joining us
