February frenzy continues this week

00:04right. Thanks for joining me

00:05right now is Accuweather chief

00:07meteorologist Jonathan Porter

00:09and you and the long range

00:11team were warning us back at

00:14the beginning of the wintertime.

00:16Watch out for February that it

00:16was going to be a busy, busy

00:17weather pattern and all you

00:21have to do. This know that that

00:22forecast was nailed is look at

00:24the satellite here right now.

00:26Yeah, our team identified that

00:27ahead of others. All other

00:28weather patterns are going to

00:31be a little bit different, but

00:32we're going to be a little bit

00:33different on the satellite. The

00:35storms are lining right up like

00:36a parade. Here's the first one

00:38of moving out toward the East

00:39Coast today. Storm number two

00:40in the Southwest and then look

00:43out in California. You showed

00:44what was going on in San

00:46Francisco. Calm now, but this

00:47is going to be a big storm here

00:48as we make our way through the

00:50next couple of days. All these

00:51storms impactful the first one

00:52impacting mostly the mid

00:53Atlantic, but parts of the

00:56Midwest, but. Take a look at

00:59this. This is a big storm.

01:01This is going to be a big storm

01:03tomorrow, but it's a large area

01:06of disruptive snow in the

01:07central part of the country. It

01:08sure is in places that haven't

01:10had a lot of snow. Omaha yet

01:12this season, Omaha over toward

01:13Des Moines and even up toward

01:15Chicago. So a lot of blue with

01:16the snow there and I see mix in

01:17between in places like

01:20Indianapolis. Over toward

01:21pencil parts of Pennsylvania

01:23and heavy rain flash flooding

01:25concerns across the south, and

01:26we want to highlight down in

01:28the middle of this area. So

01:29that's going to be a big

01:30concern. But we're going to be

01:31able to see that there can be a

01:33flooding problem there. All

01:34right. Let's go to the West

01:35Coast. Here's our last storm,

01:38John. And you know, I have the

01:40storm circled. But what what is

01:41really telling is the amount of

01:43moisture on the southeastern

01:45flank of that highlighted area

01:47that really stands out. When

01:48you look at this map, look at

01:49all of these yellows and reds

01:50here. These are really high

01:53cloud tops. In the atmosphere,

01:54and this is associated with a

01:56lot of rain. So we're going to

01:58see a lot of rain. We're going

01:59to see a lot of flash flooding

02:01and the one hand is good news

02:02because we need the rain, but

02:03it just can't come too fast too

02:06furious. That's we get into

02:07some serious flash flooding

02:09concerns, especially near the

02:10burn scars. Yeah, we're looking

02:12at about 2 to 4 inches of rain

02:14in Los Angeles. Now short term

02:16pain, John, this is going to

02:17cause flooding, but long term

02:19gain. We do have a short term

02:21drought across Southern

02:22California. We do so the rain

02:24is helpful toward that. But

02:24what's going to be particularly

02:26concerning is the risk for

02:27severe weather. We spoke with

02:29the chief meteorologist and

02:30severe weather expert Billy

02:32Clark in our Wichita Severe

02:33Weather Center yesterday, and

02:34he was commenting about the

02:36risk for thunderstorms here

02:38associated with this storm, and

02:38that could result in rain rates

02:41of a half inch. To one inch per

02:43hour. That's when life

02:44threatening flash flooding and

02:45mudslides can occur, especially

02:47near those burn scars. And then

02:49there we go into the Northeast.

02:50More problems and then Midwest

02:52and Northeast John really

02:53quickly. The combination of all

02:55of those things. It's going to

02:57be a very, very severe storm,

02:58and it's going to be a very

02:59severe storm. Bernie is a well

03:00in the coming days that those

03:00delays can spread across the

03:04country. All right, Accuweather
