00:00Excellencies, friends, let me begin with a simple experiment.
00:14If you upload your medical report to an AI app, it can explain in simple language, free
00:34of any jargon, what it means for your health.
00:43If you ask the same app to draw an image of someone writing with their left hand, the
01:02app will most likely draw someone writing with the right hand, because that is what
01:19the training data is dominated by.
01:24It shows that while the positive potential of AI is absolutely amazing, there are many
01:36biases that we need to think carefully about.
01:43That is why I am grateful to my friend, President Macron, for hosting this summit and for inviting
01:57me to co-chair it.
02:02Friends, AI is already reshaping our quality, our economy, our security, and even our society.
02:22AI is writing the code for humanity.
02:27AI is writing the code for humanity in this century, but it is very different from other
02:42technology milestones in human history.
02:49AI is developing at an unprecedented scale and speed, and being adapted and deployed
02:59even faster.
03:02There is also a deep interdependence across borders.
03:10Therefore, there is a need for collective global efforts to establish governance and
03:21standards that upload our shared values, address risks, and build trust.
03:33But governance is not just about managing risks and rivalries.
03:43It is also about promoting innovation and deploying it for the global good.
03:54So we must think deeply and discuss openly about innovation and governance.
04:09Governance is also about ensuring access to all, especially in the global south.
04:21It is where the capabilities are most lacking, be it compute, power, talent, data, or the
04:37financial resources.
04:40Friends, AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, agriculture,
04:54and so much more.
04:57It can help create a world in which the journey to sustainable development goals becomes easier
05:11and faster.
05:14To do this, we must pull together resources and talent.
05:25We must develop open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency.
05:38We must build quality data sets free from biases.
05:46We must democratize technology and create people-centric applications.
05:57We must address concerns related to cyber security, disinformation, and defects.
06:11And we must also ensure that technology is rooted in local ecosystems for it to be effective
06:23and useful.
06:25Friend, loss of jobs is AI's most feared disruption.
06:36But history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology.
06:47Its nature changes, and new types of jobs are created.
06:55We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future.
07:08Friends, there is no doubt that the high energy intensity of AI needs to be looked into.
07:21This will require green power to fuel its future.
07:31India and France have worked together for years through initiatives like the International
07:40Solar Alliance to harness the power of the sun.
07:46As we advance our partnership to AI, it is a natural progression from sustainability
07:57to innovation to shape a smarter and responsible future.
08:06At the same time, sustainable AI does not only mean using clean energy.
08:19AI models must also be efficient and sustainable in size, data needs, and resources requirements.
08:34After all, the human brain manages to compose poetry and design spaceships using less power
08:53than most light bulbs.
08:58Friends, India has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion
09:10people at a very low cost.
09:16It is built around an open and accessible network.
09:24It has regulations and a wide range of applications to modernize our economy, reform governance,
09:36and transform the lives of our people.
09:41We have unlocked the power of data through our data empowerment and protection architecture.
09:55And we have made digital commerce democratic and accessible to all.
10:06This vision is the foundation of India's national AI mission.
10:16That is why during our G20 presidency, we built a consensus on harnessing AI responsibly
10:31for good and for all.
10:35Today, India leads in AI adoption and techno-legal solutions on data privacy.
10:49We are developing AI applications for public good.
10:58We have one of the world's largest AI talent pools.
11:07India is building its own large language model considering our diversity.
11:19We also have a unique public-private partnership model for pooling resources like compute power.
11:33It is made available to our startups and researchers at an affordable cost.
11:44India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that the AI future is for good and for all.
12:01Friends, we are at the dawn of the AI age that will shape the course of humanity.
12:13Some people worry about machines becoming superior in intelligence to humans.
12:23But no one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans.
12:40That sense of responsibility must guide us.
