So we're here at Market Drayton and Kate, the market, this is your world here isn't it?
00:04
It is, it is, the centre of my universe.
00:07
And you've got a special VIP guest today.
00:09
We have, lovely Helen Morgan.
00:11
Hello Helen.
00:11
Our North Shropshire MP.
00:14
So what's the idea of the visit today then Helen, just to kind of see what's going on, what's happening here?
00:20
Yeah, just to show some support really because Kate's done such a fabulous job in reinvigorating the market here.
00:25
Getting lots of people to come shopping in Market Drayton on a Wednesday and on a Saturday morning.
00:30
So I just really wanted to come along and show you my support and have a look around the stalls as well because they're excellent.
00:34
And what have you thought of what you've seen? There's a nice range of stalls isn't there?
00:38
Yeah, it's really lovely. It's got a really nice atmosphere.
00:41
The traders are obviously doing well and they're enjoying working with each other.
00:46
And it's just great to see so many people out and about in Market Drayton as well.
00:50
And Kate, it draws people in from quite far afield doesn't it?
00:53
I know myself, stopping someone on the street at one of the markets,
00:56
they've come over from the black country to visit Market Drayton markets.
00:59
That's a nice little pat on the back that you're doing something right isn't it?
01:02
It is, it is.
01:03
And it's growing as well, you've got new traders coming along.
01:07
Yes, the street market on a Wednesday has increased hugely.
01:11
And I've already got a new trader signed up who's trading here on the Artisan market
01:17
and is now going to join us on the Wednesday street market.
01:20
So I'm thrilled about that.
01:22
Great stuff. Well I will let you continue shopping ladies.
01:25
Thank you very much.
01:25
Cheers.
01:28
Hello Sally, you okay?
01:30
I'm very well, thank you.
01:31
Cool, so your business is The Yummy Box?
01:33
Yes.
01:34
And what do you do then? I think we're getting the gist of it, go on.
01:38
I sell and make homemade chocolate truffles.
01:43
Yeah.
01:43
So I've got a big selection.
01:45
And how long have you been involved with Market Drayton market?
01:49
About a year and a half now.
01:51
Yeah.
01:51
I used to have a stall but because I'm ill I decided to have a table.
01:56
Hence I've got over there, I've got a chocolate fountain.
01:59
That looks good.
02:01
That is for the brain tumour association because I've got a brain tumour.
02:04
Oh wow.
02:05
And they're very good in here so if I'm ill because of the tumour they let me have the
02:09
time off because I can't be in.
02:11
Yeah, yeah wow.
02:12
So it's that kind of camaraderie of the market traders all coming.
02:16
Everybody is here for everybody else and they're so nice to each other.
02:20
It's a nice vibe isn't it when you walk around the market at Market Drayton.
02:23
I am picking that up.
02:24
Nice kind of feel to it you know.
02:26
We also look out for each other and you know the chefs behind me have got my husband's
02:31
phone number so if I have a seizure, if I have epilepsy, I'll phone my husband and they
02:37
all look after me.
02:38
Cool.
02:39
So what would you recommend then if someone was coming?
02:41
What's, you know, for yourself?
02:43
I mean the passion fruit kind of gives me your air.
02:49
These little purple.
02:50
They look very cute, I have to admit.
02:52
So my biggest seller is probably the Biscoffy Truffles or the Cinder Toffee, which I've
02:58
got the Cinder Toffee bits and that was made yesterday, the Cinder Toffee.
03:06
And my other biggest seller, my favourite is the Raspberry.
03:09
Raspberry.
03:10
Yeah.
03:10
It's all good shouts.
03:11
Get yourselves down guys, Raspberry's the word.
03:14
Oh it's very yummy, that'll be a favourite.
03:16
So who in the market do we find?
03:17
Katie, hello.
03:18
Hello.
03:19
It's an usual name isn't it Katie?
03:21
I like that.
03:22
How long have you been trading here then?
03:24
I've been trading here for about seven months maybe.
03:27
Cool.
03:28
And how old are you?
03:29
Quite younger yeah?
03:29
I'm 14.
03:30
14 and a businesswoman already.
03:33
So what's some of the stuff?
03:34
Talk us through what you're selling.
03:36
So over here are all my earrings.
03:39
My business is called Charmed because I use Charmed with my earrings and everything else.
03:45
And do you make these yourself then?
03:47
Yes I do.
03:48
Wow, okay.
03:49
And then what are these over here, these colourful?
03:52
Yeah.
03:52
These are cotton roses.
03:55
Cotton?
03:56
Yes.
03:56
Oh wow.
03:57
So I use wax to dip them into.
04:00
Yeah.
04:00
And then add a bit of glitter on top of some of them.
04:04
That's cool.
04:04
And as well as trying to earn a few pounds, do you kind of like the buzz of the market,
04:09
meeting people?
04:09
Is that?
04:10
Yes.
04:10
Yeah yeah.
04:11
So what would you like to kind of do when you're an old woman like I'm an old man?
04:15
What would you like to be doing?
04:17
When I'm older, I like to act and stuff.
04:21
And I also like to make things.
04:23
So sometimes I think of being a fashion designer to create dresses and stuff.
04:28
Yeah, yeah.
04:29
Sounds good.
04:29
Well, good luck in that, Katie.
04:31
And good luck with your stall.
04:35
Hi.
04:36
Well, let me introduce you to Sue.
04:38
This is Helen Morgan, Longstropshire MP.
04:42
Hello, Sue.
04:43
What's your stall all about then, Sue?
04:44
What have we got here?
04:45
Um, everything is handmade.
04:47
Yeah.
04:47
And I've loved sewing all my life.
04:49
OK.
04:49
And it all started really with our youngest granddaughter, who now is 15,
04:55
with name bunting that I did.
04:57
And it's just grown from there.
04:58
Ah.
04:59
Um, we're doing quite a lot of bespoke bunting and name bunting.
05:04
Um, this is one of the...
05:08
Ah, that's great.
05:10
Have you got a Helen?
05:11
Yeah.
05:11
Or a Morgan?
05:12
Um, but it's all different colours and everything else.
05:16
Yeah.
05:16
And then it went on to name cushions.
05:18
Oh, that's pretty.
05:19
And then decorative cushions and all different decorative bunting.
05:22
That's another one that we're doing.
05:24
Oh, that's cool.
05:25
Yeah, they are.
05:25
They're delightful.
05:27
Do you hand make them all yourself?
05:28
I hand make everything that's on the stall.
05:30
Wow.
05:30
That's incredible.
05:31
Um, but we don't sell on a website, because a lot of the bunting we do is universal.
05:35
We didn't want people to copy.
05:37
So I do about six artisan markets a month, and it's all I can do to keep up with that.
05:42
I just love selling.
