00:00Hi there, with high pressure sitting across the UK on Thursday, we saw plenty of sunshine
00:05but that's not going to be the case over the next few days in many places as the high relocates
00:11to Scandinavia and allows an easterly wind to arrive into many parts of the country,
00:16particularly the south where we've already seen the effects of that, patchy cloud arriving
00:19overnight and an increased breeze. That means there'll be a few showers in the southeast
00:25and it'll be less frosty as we wake up on Friday across parts of England and Wales,
00:29although where we keep some clear skies, where we keep lighter winds, there will be a frost
00:34and for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, certainly a frost and some fog patches
00:38in places. But that's where we see the best of the sunshine first thing Friday, widespread
00:42clear skies across the far north, the west, into central Scotland, Northern Ireland, western
00:47fringes of England and Wales, but elsewhere, thickening cloud all the while, outbreaks
00:52of showery rain moving through, reaching parts of Wales and the southwest by the afternoon,
00:57some sleet mixed in, perhaps even some hill snow, feeling cold in the easterly wind, 4
01:01or 5 Celsius in places, but a pleasant afternoon once again for northern and western Scotland
01:07in particular with beautiful blue skies. Now we keep the east to southeasterly winds going
01:12into the weekend. This low moves up on Friday and into the start of Saturday, bringing that
01:18thicker cloud, bringing outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow and there'll be some milder
01:24air mixed in as well, so a real mix of wintry weather, but it's predominantly the hills,
01:30so perhaps a sprinkling of snow over the Chilterns and the Downs, but more especially the moors
01:35of the southwest and the Welsh mountains could see a covering of snow by the start of Saturday.
01:40At lower levels, it's mainly rain and sleet, but it's going to be a grey and damp start
01:45for many on Saturday morning. Once more, northern and western Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland
01:50experiencing the best of any bright weather, a touch of frost, one or two fog patches first thing.
01:54But you can see how extensive the cloud becomes during the weekend, many parts of the UK affected
02:00by the grey skies, the best of any brightness remaining towards the northwest and the west,
02:06but it will be gloomy I think and damp for many. Any lying snow mostly affecting the hills
02:12and mountains of Wales and England, otherwise it's cold rain or sleet and it will feel cold
02:18in the easterly 5 to 7 Celsius. A similar day is expected on Sunday and in fact we keep
02:25similar conditions into the start of next week, so a cold easterly but not one of the
02:29very cold easterlies you might expect to happen for the time of year and there will be some
02:36rain and sleet at times as well.
