00:00It is the country's favorite white meat, but the price of pork has climbed to an outrageous

00:05400 pesos a kilo in the NCR and elsewhere.

00:08Thus, the Department of Agriculture may be left with no option but to put a handle on

00:13prices threatening to run away by way of an MSRP on pork, as our Mary Vell Custodio reports.

00:22Consumers are in favor of mandating a maximum suggested retail price on pork.

00:26What you can buy from pork is only one pork, it can be eaten by the family, so it can survive.

00:33It should be just right, there should be a lower price.

00:37Pork is more expensive, 400 pesos plus.

00:40It should be just 300 pesos plus.

00:44The Department of Agriculture is considering the option of setting an MSRP on pork amidst

00:48the spike in retail prices of pork, and despite its low farm meat price of around 200 pesos.

00:54The DA is conducting its investigation regarding the questionable hike in retail prices.

00:59Anyone involved in profiteering or any activities that take advantage of consumers and volatile

01:04pork prices may be held liable for violation of Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act.

01:09Meanwhile, the Agriculture Department continued to implement a 58 pesos MSRP for imported

01:15premium rice.

01:16The agency will tighten its implementation starting next week.

01:19Going back, the Department of Trade and Industry and DA granted an extension for rice sellers

01:24who need to sell their old stocks before abiding with the MSRP.

01:28While the Kadiwa na Pangudo Rice for All program is still in progress, the Kadiwa grains can

01:32now be bought for 38 pesos a kilo from its previous 40 pesos.

01:36The new lower price is in compliance with the President's recent directive on food security.
