00:00The DA is on full court press to bring rice to as cheap as 33 to 35 pesos a kilo or even lower.

00:08Likewise, it is also on a mission to fix the price of pork to 400 pesos per

00:13or even lower than that as our Merivel Custodio has more.

00:20The Department of Agriculture or DA is in consultation with stakeholders

00:24for the implementation of maximum suggested retail price or MSRP on pork.

00:29According to the DA, pork retail prices should not increase by 400 pesos per kilo.

00:44Aside from setting at MSRP, the Agriculture Department is looking at the possibility

00:49of adding another option wherein pork and chicken can be bought at a lower price.

00:59Meanwhile, most retailers abide by the new 52 pesos maximum suggested retail price on 5%

01:14broken imported rice from the previous 55 pesos MSRP, while some rice retailers are still selling

01:21above 52 pesos MSRP to clear out old stocks. The DA targets to bring the MSRP further down

01:27to 49 pesos by March. Also, the DA is about to release an initial 150,000 metric tons

01:33of National Food Authority or NFA rice to local government units. Some have signified interest

01:39to sell NFA rice. This follows the declaration of a National Food Emergency Security on rice.
