00:00As prices continue to creep up, the Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls are making a big difference for Filipino households.
00:06With rise at just 20 pesos per kilo, families can stretch their budgets further even as mealtimes grow tougher.
00:12Demand remains high with lines forming as early as dawn, while vegetable prices spike due to rainy weather.
00:18Kadiwa rise remains a staple for many. Denise Osorio tells us more.
00:22For Angie and her family, 300 pesos to 500 pesos a week simply doesn't stretch as far as it used to.
00:30There are only four of them at home, including her elderly mother.
00:34But with rising costs, even modest meals are becoming a challenge.
00:38Thanks to the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls offering rise at just 20 pesos a kilo,
00:44they've been able to make their weekly budget go that little bit further.
00:52Over at Kamuning Market, grains retailer Javier, who runs one of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls,
01:03says the cheap rise is flying off the shelves.
01:07On average, they're able to sell between 120 and 180 sacks of NFA rice each week.
01:13He adds that people travel from far and wide just to get their hands on the 20 peso per kilo rice.
01:26By 6 in the morning, or often earlier, queues are already forming at the Kamuning stall, rain or shine,
01:32as Kadiwa runs from Tuesday to Saturday only, so demand is always high.
01:36Meanwhile, prices for most everyday goods have held steady, with only a few vegetables seeing a bump in prices this week.
01:44Bitter gourd is now going for 160 pesos a kilo, up from 130 pesos.
01:49Red onions have crept up from 140 pesos to 150 pesos per kilo,
01:54and cucumbers now fetch 120 pesos, a 20 peso jump from last week.
01:58Vendors say the recent price hikes are likely due to ongoing rainy weather, which has affected supply.
02:04As for fish and meat, sellers report little to no change in pricing for now.
02:10Denise Osorio for the National Television Network for a new and better Philippines.
