Madame Coco, a vintage boutique, has opened in Glasgow’s Dennistoun

We visit Madame Coco to find out about her new boutique on Duke Street.

00:00My name is Ewelina, commonly known recently as Madame Coco.

00:06I opened my beautiful boutique.

00:09It must be of good quality and nice, chic, elegant, stylish, interesting quality.

00:20No matter what we do in our lives, whether we've got a cup of coffee,

00:24whether we go on a trip by bus, by train, we also want a good quality trip.

00:32Whether we wear what we wear, we also want good quality garments.

00:36It has become more and more difficult to really find garments of good quality.

00:41The considerable vast majority of mainstream chains,

00:45they bring to their shops polyester, nylon, acrylic or so-called blend.

00:53And then you can't really really detect what it is, what kind of fabric.

00:58I am very much obsessed with the fabric because fabric is what makes quality.

01:04When I was growing up, when I was becoming a teenager and then an adult,

01:08I just wanted to wear nice garments, chic, stylish, interesting,

01:17because then that always made me feel better.

01:20I can tell the same about my customers.

01:23When my customers enter the boutique and they react, wow!

01:28So this is exactly what I wanted to achieve,

01:32to give my customers that interesting quality and style.

01:37Style and inspiration, I must say, comes mostly from French and Italian fashion.

01:47Sometimes I've got the impression that whatever they produce, invent,

01:51it is always interesting, desirable.

01:55Many customers, when they discover that I am here,

01:58they actually started coming and saying,

02:02look, next month I've got a wedding, I've got a golden wedding.

02:08In two weeks' time I'm going to an event, I've got a party, I need this, I need that.

02:14Could you bring it?

02:16And that's a real joy for me because actually,

02:21even if I don't have something available for all customers on my hangers

02:27at the time when they need something,

02:31then that means that they come here and they put their trust in me

02:35that if I bring something that will be of good quality, durable and interesting and elegant.

02:45So I basically talk to my customers, I ask them what they like.

02:52I very often ask them to try a few things,

02:57even if this is not what they want to buy,

03:01but I just want to see their style, also their silhouette, their size.

03:11So I basically also do research in terms of my customers

03:15when they ask me to bring something for them.
