A new rooftop restaurant in Leeds, a redevelopment of a shopping centre in Bristol, and news
00:07
of how an investment was paid off for a music studio in Stockport.
00:11
That's all coming up in today's Business Briefing, sponsored by Surebook.
00:20
My name is Lawrence Gleganon.
00:21
And I'm Robin Hewson.
00:22
Well, morning, Robin.
00:23
Good morning.
00:24
Perhaps we can start with news from God's own county.
00:27
Hello.
00:28
You're always keen on news from, well, particularly Sheffield, but this is Leeds.
00:32
So there's an exciting new sort of restaurant.
00:34
Yeah.
00:35
And I went to uni in Leeds.
00:36
So there's always a little connection there as well.
00:37
Same here.
00:38
So we can reminisce.
00:39
Oh, brilliant.
00:40
Yeah.
00:41
Well, I mean, it's changed a lot since our uni days, I imagine.
00:43
But the latest development is Sovereign Square.
00:46
And it's had a hotel that's been set to open there.
00:48
And the latest addition is a Latin American restaurant as well.
00:51
Lovely.
00:52
So Azatea is going to be taking influencers from 33 countries across South America.
00:57
So it sounds really exciting.
00:58
They've got everything from Mexico to Brazil and everywhere in between, really.
01:01
It sounds very exciting.
01:02
Yeah, a great addition.
01:03
I mean, City Centre, I did used to go there, but it's changed so dramatically when I see
01:08
pictures from, well, the 90s.
01:11
So it's no surprise, really, as it's 30 years ago.
01:13
But yeah, the changes have been superb because perhaps people were more drawn to the suburbs
01:18
back in those days.
01:19
But there's so much to go on in the City Centre now.
01:21
Yeah, I think it really is coming alive.
01:22
I think I've been back a few times for the UK Reef Conference.
01:25
Oh, yes.
01:27
So even just going a few years after I left uni, you can see the difference in the City
01:29
Centre now.
01:30
There's Wellington Place, there's a lot of development around there as well.
01:33
And you can't beat a new rooftop restaurant.
01:35
Exactly, yeah.
01:36
So where is that?
01:37
It's up in Skirts, where?
01:38
Near the station, I believe.
01:39
Yeah.
01:40
Okay.
01:41
So yeah, very central.
01:42
And it's also got Hyatt Place and Hyatt House opening the hotels.
01:46
And they're delivering over 200 rooms.
01:47
So some are for people to stay and some are for people to eat.
01:50
Fantastic.
01:51
So it's lovely for the Leeds tourists.
01:52
Sounds really good.
01:53
So sticking with investment, news today about a new development in Bristol, where the Gallery
02:00
Shopping Centre has been lined up to be demolished.
02:04
And if that's approved, it will make way for a mixed-use development featuring student
02:09
accommodation-led.
02:10
I mean, often that's the case, isn't it?
02:12
When people put forward these plans, student accommodation is key.
02:15
And of course, Bristol's got a huge student population, or often it's built to rent or
02:20
a combination of the two.
02:21
But this is a student accommodation-led scheme.
02:25
But there are also going to be space for leisure uses, including potentially a nightclub.
02:29
Oh, wow.
02:30
Well, that'll go down well with the students.
02:31
Yes, it will.
02:32
Absolutely superb.
02:33
A nightclub in the bottom of the building, that'll be good.
02:36
Very risky as well.
02:38
Anyhow, you've apparently got news from the North West about a music studio.
02:42
Absolutely, yeah.
02:43
So it's South City Studios, which is the only pre-production room available in the North
02:48
of England for music artists.
02:50
And they were one of the first, I believe, to get some of the MPIFF funding, so Northern
02:53
Powerhouse Investment Fund.
02:55
Great.
02:56
So this is one that they've had the funding and it's paid off, so to speak.
02:59
Yeah, I think they're a great success story, really, for this funding.
03:02
So it's allowed them to actually double the size of their facility over in Stockport.
03:07
And they're now servicing loads of really big music artists.
03:10
Any names for us, Robbie?
03:11
Yes.
03:12
Well, you'll know Johnny Marr.
03:13
Oh, yes.
03:14
Fantastic.
03:15
From the Smiths.
03:16
Yeah.
03:17
And the Kaiser Chiefs, Sam Smith and Elbow.
03:18
Right.
03:19
Yeah.
03:20
That is great names.
03:21
Over in Stockport.
03:22
I imagine when you're an up-and-coming artist, you'd like to know who's been there before
03:24
and those names really do sort of roll off the tongue.
03:27
Absolutely.
03:28
Yeah.
03:29
So really exciting for South City Studios.
03:30
And I think Stockport's got quite a music legacy going on anyway.
03:33
It has.
03:34
In fact, didn't you see Blossoms when they were supporting Rick Astley?
03:37
I did, yeah.
03:38
Covering Smith's songs.
03:39
Absolutely.
03:40
Yeah, over at Glastonbury.
03:41
So yeah, Stockport all the way over there was fantastic to see.
03:45
Good stuff.
03:46
Well, we've got news of the Bank of Ireland UK is investing ÂŁ100 million in its operations
03:51
over the next three years.
03:53
That's been announced at the same time as they're celebrating their 200th anniversary
03:56
in Northern Ireland.
03:57
Wow.
03:58
And the investment is going to go in their sort of everyday banking and into also their
04:01
lending, mortgage and broker offerings.
04:04
So a very exciting investment over in Northern Ireland.
