The state celebrates 150 new citizens in Queensland town hall

A day that marks a proud moment for the many migrants who are celebrating officially becoming citizens. In Victoria it was no different, as people who have come from all corners of the world reflect on what it means to be Australian.

00:00A warm welcome for the country's newest Australians.

00:14At Melbourne Town Hall, 150 people from 38 different nations took the Oath of Citizenship,

00:21grateful to now officially call Australia home.

00:26I'm so lucky to be part of this country. It's such an incredible feeling.

00:31Australia has given us everything. It has given us a lot of opportunities.

00:35People in Australia are amazing, super friendly, they're very easy going.

00:40It's really the people that make it feel like a home for me.

00:45Festivities and barbecues lit up across the state.

00:49While some preferred the traditional snag, others opted for a sweet treat and enjoying the day.

01:10But for Indigenous Victorians, it was a day for reflection.

01:13Thousands attended this dawn ceremony in Torquay.

01:19This is an opportunity to come together collectively in solidarity,

01:23to share the truth and the history of the nation that we all call home.

01:27While in Melbourne, Victoria's longest running Indigenous festival, Share the Spirits,

01:32marks the day in song, drawing crowds in the hundreds.

01:36While Australia Day means many things to many people,

01:39here it's become a celebration of Aboriginal culture and making the day their own.

01:44There is a lot of pain to come together and to be able to provide some joy through music.
