00:00Another year in the great southern land.
00:05Welcome by the first Australians,
00:10the newest Australians took their official places in the national family,
00:15coming from every continent to a new island home.
00:20All of you, as Australian citizens,
00:22will weave your chapter into our nation's great story
00:26with so much more to come.
00:28The promise of a great education brought Chidi Aloise Chidi
00:33to Australia from Nigeria seven years ago,
00:36but the opportunities for his family have exceeded his expectations.
00:41Their welcoming nature, you know, that has actually impacted our lives.
00:46And at this point, we're just looking at opportunity
00:49wherein we could be able to give back to the society.
00:52For the Viswanathan family from India,
00:55it's the more balanced attitude to life in Australia
00:58they've taken to the most.
01:00When you're working, you just work,
01:02and once you finish, you just focus on your family,
01:04and it's not like you're thinking about work all the time
01:07and have to give your time to that.
01:13A special Australia Day too
01:15for the first Canberran to serve as Governor-General.
01:18The daughter of a retired colonel
01:21inspected the Australian Federation Guard.
01:24Once the national ceremony was over,
01:27locals came out to enjoy the sunshine
01:30and some traditional cuisine,
01:33reflecting on what it means to be Australian and Canberran.
01:38We love being outdoors, so anything that gets us out
01:41is something that we will do together.
01:43So tonight we'll come down to the lake
01:45and we're going to watch the light show
01:47and we're just actually just checking out
01:49which markets we're going to come to tonight.
01:51A day for everyone in a country like no other.
