00:00Faulty tyres are among the reasons 17 express buses at the Melaka Bus Terminal have been
00:08grounded against operating during the Lunar New Year season.
00:11Melaka Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Transport Committee Chairman
00:17Datuk Hamid Mithin Kunjubashir said screenings of express bus operators at the bus terminal
00:23also found that one driver tested positive for drugs.
00:27The driver had been scheduled to transport passengers to the northern states during the
00:32festive season.
00:33Hamid Mithin said the 17 buses had 24 technical violations, of which faulty tyres were the
00:40most prominent.
00:41There were 24 technical errors that we had to ensure and the buses involved in the technical
00:46errors were not allowed to move until they passed a PAYA and were registered by the JBJ.
00:54If there is a tyre problem, they need to change the tyre, if there is a brake problem, they
00:59need to fix the brake pressure.
01:01Hamid Mithin said until then, the buses will remain suspended.
01:06He adds express buses with journeys exceeding four hours will only be allowed to operate
01:12once they meet the technical standards set by the Road Transport Department.
01:16More than 200 express buses operating during this festive season have undergone rigorous
01:22inspections for tyres, brakes and engines.
