00:00Morning. Storm Eowyn is hitting the UK at the moment. Damaging gusts of wind are expected in
00:07the coming hours. Met Office red warnings are in place. The storm itself has been intensifying
00:12through the night and continues to track its way slowly but surely just up to the northwest of
00:18Northern Ireland. The strongest winds on its southern flank barrelling in right now across
00:24the west of the Republic of Ireland. Strongest winds across Northern Ireland through the morning.
00:30Gusts of 70-90 mph are possible on exposed coasts.
00:40The strongest winds are working their way into central and southwestern parts of Scotland
00:46during the morning and picking up late morning into the early part of the afternoon.
00:52Darker colours are moving through. Strong winds across northern England and north Wales as well.
00:58The storm system moves away to the north and will take those strong winds across northern Scotland
01:03later today and still through the night into tomorrow morning.
01:07The warnings are constantly being monitored. Red warnings in place for Northern Ireland,
01:12central and southwestern Scotland. In this zone, we are expecting gusts of 80-90 mph,
01:19potentially 100 mph on exposed coasts. These winds are damaging gusts of wind,
01:26likely to cause disruption, potential damage to structures, bringing down power cables,
01:33branches and trees. This is also likely to cause widespread travel disruption.
01:39Think about your journeys today. Do you have to make those journeys, particularly if you are in
01:43red areas? We also have amber warnings flanking those red areas where gusts of wind are also
01:50likely to cause damage and potential power outages, along with widespread travel disruption
01:56across northern England, north Wales and much of northern Scotland. Gusts of wind through the day
02:02of 60-70 mph widely, 80 mph in some places and maybe higher than that again in exposed areas
02:09around coasts and over the tops of hills. Yellow wind warning covering the south where the winds
02:13won't be as strong but nevertheless could potentially cause some disruption. We also
02:17have warnings for rain. After yesterday's rain across the southwest, more to come today could
02:23cause problems. And yes, that is snow falling across the hills of central and northern Scotland,
02:28even at lower levels, for a time. But the snow over the higher ground will continue through the
02:32day and really could build up. So that's an extra hazard. After the wet and windy start,
02:37it does turn a bit brighter across England and Wales through the day. The winds will ease a
02:41little bit. It's a very, very gusty day with the strongest winds this afternoon across western
02:46Scotland transferring into northern parts of Scotland. Temperature-wise, well, it's a much
02:51milder start than it has been of late. By this afternoon, actually, temperatures may dip a little
02:55across the south, generally seven or eight Celsius here, five or six further north. Obviously, it's
02:59going to feel colder than that with the strength of the wind, which will continue to be very,
03:05very stiff. And those damaging gusts of wind continue across northern Scotland
03:10through this evening and indeed overnight. The amber warning is in place into Saturday morning
03:15here. Still snow falling over the higher routes as well. Elsewhere, it does turn a little calmer
03:20through this evening and overnight. And as the winds ease with clear skies, likely to see frost
03:26in many places to start the weekend. Still some of that rain lingering across parts of Kent into
03:31Saturday morning. But many other areas are starting Saturday with a touch of frost, certainly
03:35in rural areas. Towns and cities may be a touch above. But a cold start to the weekend. For many,
03:40though, it's a dry and a bright start. Plenty of sunshine for England, Wales and southern parts of
03:45Scotland. There'll still be very strong winds across northern Scotland. They'll slowly ease
03:49through the day. Then we'll see more showers coming in as the winds pick up again across
03:53northern Ireland and western most coasts. But I say for many, Saturday looks like a dry and
03:58a bright day with some sunny spells and temperatures close to average for the time of
04:03year. Fives and sixes across the north, seven to nine Celsius further south. But we're maybe not
04:09done with the lively weather. Even by the second half of the weekend, eyes out in the Atlantic. The
04:15jet is particularly active at the moment. It's what's powering in Storm Eoin. That is clearing
04:21away during Saturday. But out in the Atlantic, another area of low pressure is developing. This
04:26is unlikely to be as powerful. But of course, these weather fronts will be providing more rain.
04:31And after a recent spell of wet weather, this could cause some further flooding issues. The
04:36ice bars still pretty close together as well. As I said, there's still not as powerful. The
04:40wind's maybe not as strong. But nevertheless, we could see some disruption from the strength
04:45of the wind during the second half of the weekend. So we do have Met Office warnings in place for
04:50that as well. Please do keep up to date with everything that's going on. Best way to do that
