The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for tomorrow Friday 24 January across the Central Belt which includes Glasgow.
Winds could reach 100mph so people are being warned to factor this into travel plans as driving conditions are expected to be very dangerous.
The warning is in place for between 10am and 5pm with an amber warning that will carry on until Saturday morning.
The First Minister said it is vital people follow public safety guidance during this storm as they only reserve red warnings for the most severe weather which represents a danger to life.
There is likely to be disruption with energy supplies and widespread damage on properties and infrastructure.
A number of councils across Scotland have already announced school closures.

The AA has urged drivers to pack essentials in the car if they need to travel in case of breakdowns and to allow for additional journey time.
