An Amber weather warning has been issued across Scotland today on Monday 4 August, as Storm Floris brings unusually strong winds from the Atlantic.

The weather is expected to impact almost the entire country with 90mph winds.

The Met Office has upgraded a previous yellow weather warning for strong winds to an Amber alert.

Glaswegians are being told to expect a “danger to life”.

The winds were said to have started at 6am and predicted until midnight, though a severe warning is in place between 10am and 10pm.

Travelling is set for disruption with longer journey times on roads, and cancellations on public transport including buses, railways, air and ferries.

A number of flights to and from Glasgow Airport have been cancelled, as have several train services.

There is also a warning of possible power cuts and people are being advised to stay indoors as much as possible, and not walk or shelter close to buildings and trees.

People are also being told to secure any loose items outside homes such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.
