00:17The charge sheet states, Chia, as a person with custody of the infant, allegedly abandoned,
00:23neglected or exposed the child to danger, resulting in injury to the left side of his
00:28head, leading to death.
00:31The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Taman Intan Jaya, Mersing, between December
00:376 last year and January 12.
00:39The charge under Section 31, Subsection 1A of the Child Act, 2001, carries a penalty
00:46under the same section, providing for a fine not exceeding 50,000 ringgit, imprisonment
00:52for up to 20 years, or both upon conviction.
00:56Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Khairuddin Khalid requested bail be set at 20,000 ringgit
01:02with additional conditions, including regular police station, check-ins and no contact with
01:08witnesses, especially the victim's family.
01:11Defence Counsel Amy Law Siu Tin sought a lower bail amount, citing her client's role as the
01:17sole breadwinner caring for a disabled husband.
