With red onions hitting to 250 pesos to 330 pesos per kilo, and carrots at 120 pesos to 200 pesos per kilo,
00:08
households are finding ways to stretch every peso.
00:11
The Agricultural Department steps in with a maximum suggested retail price,
00:15
ensuring shoppers aren't left holding the bag this holiday season, as Arvel Custodio reports.
00:23
Consumers like Donna and Angie are finding ways to save as the prices of onions and carrots continues to rise.
00:30
00:50
Red onions are being sold from 250 to 330 pesos per kilo,
00:55
while carrots cost 120 to 200 pesos, based on the DA's Bantay Precio Monitoring.
01:02
Kasi meron nga red onion, naririnig ako, may 300, may 160, may 180, that's too much.
01:07
01:22
So para sa onion, ang magiging MSRP na local at imported should be 120 until end of January.
01:30
With the implementation of the maximum suggested retail price beginning of December 1,
01:35
the highest retail price for onion and carrot should only be 120 pesos per kilo.
01:39
The MSRP for pork will also be reinstated at 340 pesos per kilo for pork shoulder or casim and pork leg or pigue,
01:48
and 370 pesos per liempo or pork belly.
01:51
Freshly slaughtered carcass or sabit ulo will also be priced at 210 pesos.
01:57
The Agriculture Department is also looking into the possibility of increasing tariff on imported pork.
02:02
Furthermore, regarding the detected African swine fever cases in several stock farms in the Loma Quezon City,
02:08
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chulaurel Jr. said that it is only an isolated case.
02:14
Ang isang suspensya namin kasi, meron mga nadidetect ng ASF ang baboy,
02:20
but it doesn't mean yun yung ASF na ano kasi maraming gumagamit yung illegal na vaccine eh.
02:25
Diba? The illegal vaccine, pag binaksinate nila yung kanilang baboy,
02:31
it will show up as positive eh.
02:34
But it doesn't mean it is contagious.
02:36
The day continues its testing on the detected virus in hogs.
02:41
The agency assured the public this is no reason for alarm.
02:45
Meanwhile, although fish prices are also spiking,
02:48
they will not be included in the items covered by the MSRP.
02:51
Yung isda, napansin ko rin mataas pa.
02:55
So I checked ngayon yung amount of importation ng isda,
03:01
like galunggong babae, galunggong lalaki.
03:04
Starting this week, marami nang papasok eh.
03:06
So we should expect also fish prices to go down.
03:09
Kasi ngayon may nakita ko 300.
03:11
Dapat mababayan ng 250, no?
03:13
Something like that or even less than that.
03:17
So nakatuto ko tayo, gusto ko lang paalam sa publiko na nakatuto ko kami dito.
03:22
At araw-araw nire-review po yung, nire-review ng DA yung lahat ng presyo na kailangan ni-review.
03:28
And we're doing our best to make sure na itong Christmas season ay ma-avoid yung mga spikes
03:34
at if possible, mapababa pa yung presyo.
03:37
The DA and Department of Trade and Industry continue to inspect markets to ensure proper pricing.
03:42
The agencies will issue show-cause order to retailers questionable pricing
03:46
to trace those manipulating the prices for basic goods.
03:50
Vel Custodio for the National TV for a new and better Philippines.
