00:00Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Uthman Syed says she is against the government's
00:07move to seek a gag order from the courts to bar public discourse on Najib Razak's bid
00:12to compel Putrajaya to execute an addendum order on house arrest.
00:16She said that in her view, a gag order should not be imposed as the matter is already in
00:21the public domain and will likely be discussed in the Dewan Rakyat next month.
00:26However, she acknowledged that the Attorney General's chambers is likely to have its
00:30own reasons for pursuing the order and stressed that the judiciary should be allowed to make
00:34an independent decision on the matter.
00:37Azalina also brushed off the claim by past Secretary General Takiuddin Hassan that Prime
00:42Minister Anwar Ibrahim's explanation of the Attorney General's action exposed the government
00:46to a conflict of law and the constitution.
00:49She added that since the case is currently in court, it is up to the judge to decide
00:53who is right or wrong, suggesting that Takiuddin should address his concerns in his affidavit.
