00:00So today we're making a major announcement on our journey to becoming net zero by 2040,

00:10which is all about delivering to customers using zero tailpipe emission deliveries.

00:16So there's three elements to the announcement that we're making today.

00:19The first one is that we've made a record breaking order for electric trucks that will

00:25join our fleet this year in the UK.

00:27The second piece is about how we're now moving products from Scotland down to the East Midlands

00:33using the rail network.

00:35And the third part of the announcement is about how we're using Walker deliveries across

00:40the UK as part of our multimodal sustainable delivery network to be more sustainable.

00:48So this is the largest ever order that's been placed for electric HGVs in the UK and once

00:54that fleet hits the road, it's going to be able to move over 300 million packages around

00:59our UK transportation network.

01:02We've also invested in the charging infrastructure across our sites to be able to support them.

01:07So we're really proud of the partnership that we're doing here with Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.

01:13The reason that we're partnering with them is these trucks will have a range of over

01:17310 miles, which suits our transportation network, but also the ease of charge.

01:22We're able to charge up to 80% of the battery in just over an hour.

01:28So we're going to use the UK rail network to be able to move products down to the Midlands

01:34from Scotland.

01:35So the West Coast mainline is fully electric, so by using that, it's moving freight transport

01:42off of the roads and onto rail, and that will allow us to be able to move about 20 million

01:48products per year using that method.

01:51So we're now doing walker deliveries in London.

01:53So along with our electric bike and our electric van deliveries, now allows us to cover up

01:58to 70% of the central congestion zone with these zero emission deliveries.

02:05So we have our walker deliveries that will typically be out in pedestrianised zones.

02:09Now it's a walker delivery team that are pushing trolleys and now what we're doing is we're

02:16finding a way to go out whilst the delivery team are out on road to replenish those trolleys

02:22so that we replenish as they go.

02:24So within London, the walker deliveries with the electric vans and with the electric bikes

02:29has now allowed us to convert over half a million delivery routes to zero emission deliveries.

02:36And what this means is since 2022, we've been able to deliver over 150 million packages

02:42via zero emission deliveries.

02:45So the logistics industry faces a momentous challenge trying to get to net zero by 2050.

02:50But the exciting thing about today's announcement is moves to help reduce those emissions.

02:56So moving to electric HGVs, moving more goods by rail and also walking deliveries.

03:01All of those are going to help reduce emissions and also spread the word that there are ways

03:06in which the sector can be reducing emissions today.

03:10So in the UK, there are about half a million trucks used for logistics operations and without

03:15them, goods can't move.

03:17But we do need to move to alternative fuels to get to net zero.

03:21So it is great to see such a significant order of electric trucks being made.

03:26In total, there are less than 1% of HGVs that are electric.

03:30So this is a significant order and other operators out there can look to companies like Amazon

03:36to see what they're doing and learn and help the sector to look to the future.

03:41Rail freight is a really important mode of logistics transport and Logistics UK has

03:46been calling for more goods to be moved by rail.

03:49So it's great to see one of our members announcing that they will be doing exactly that.

03:55Logistics UK is really excited to see the announcement of more on-foot deliveries by

03:59Amazon.

04:00We're really excited to see more innovation in the sector and looking at ways to reduce

04:05emissions and congestion in busy city centres and urban areas where this type of initiative

04:11is possible.

04:12So Logistics UK's members do have concerns about the right technologies, the right ways

04:18in which they should be reducing emissions.

04:20And it is great to see a company like Amazon being one of the first adopters because that

04:25helps our other members see what's happening and have more confidence in what they may

04:30be able to adopt in the future when it's viable for their business.
