00:00A sandwich factory in Sunway, Damansara was raided last Friday by authorities after being
00:06suspected of misusing the Halal logo issued by the Islamic Development Department.
00:12The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry said the raid followed a complaint to Jakim
00:17and a viral social media post concerning the use of a questionable Halal logo on sandwich
00:22products available in several prominent supermarkets in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
00:28According to the ministry's head of enforcement Azman Adam, the factory was using a Halal
00:32logo from a certification issued to a now-defunct company.
00:37In a statement, he said the Halal logo used had expired in October 2023, adding that the
00:42ministry will also send samples of the sandwiches to the chemistry department to confirm the
00:47ingredients used.
00:49During the raid, led by the ministry and Jakim officers, various sandwich types, a computer,
00:55a printing machine, and business documents were seized.
00:59Azman said the case is under investigation for violating the Trade Descriptions Act 2011
01:04and the Trade Descriptions Order 2011.
01:07Earlier today, KK Mart suspended all business with the supplier involved.
01:11Separately, Jakim confirmed that neither the sandwiches nor the manufacturing company had
01:16Halal certification.
