Available right on your doorstep, the NHS Pharmacy First service can be provided by your community pharmacy team

00:03It's a convenient, free-to-access NHS service

00:07that means you can get healthcare advice and treatment

00:10directly from a pharmacy, without needing a GP appointment.

00:15Pharmacists are able to provide walk-in or online consultations

00:19and where appropriate, they can supply NHS medicines

00:23for people in eligible age groups with seven common conditions.

00:28Sinusitis, sore throat, earache in children,

00:33infected insect bite, impetigo, shingles,

00:38urinary tract infections in women.

00:41You can access Pharmacy First by walking into or contacting a pharmacy

00:46or your GP surgery or NHS 111 may refer you to the service,

00:51giving you faster access to healthcare advice and treatment.

00:56Pharmacists are experts in medicines and minor health conditions

01:01with the skills to identify when medicines are needed.

01:05The Pharmacy First service helps take pressure off other parts of the healthcare system

01:11without impacting the quality of the care you get.

01:15Consultations with the pharmacists are private

01:18and information on the consultation and any advice or treatment you receive

01:22will be added to your GP record.

01:25If your pharmacist can't help, they will send you to the right place,

01:29such as your GP surgery or an emergency department.

01:33However, previous experience suggests this will only be needed in a minority of cases.

01:39Over 95% of pharmacies in England, including both local and internet pharmacies,
