Police investigating after a child was killed in a caravan blaze in Boort

A child has been killed in a caravan fire in Central Victoria. Emergency services were called to a property in Boort at about six o’clock yesterday evening.

00:00A young boy has died in a caravan fire here at Bort in northern central Victoria.

00:08Emergency services were called to the Lakeview Street property just before 6 o'clock last

00:13night so paramedics and police have attended that scene.

00:16They don't yet know how the fire came to start but they believe the boy was asleep inside

00:21at the time.

00:22So Bort is 255 kilometres northwest of Melbourne.

00:25It's typically a small country town but at this time of the year, given that the lake

00:29is here, it's a really popular holiday spot for people to come so this morning even we've

00:34seen people swimming and skiing around the lake and all sorts of water sports.

00:38We've spoken to some nearby residents this morning and they've said that what they saw

00:43yesterday afternoon was a bit of smoke coming out and they didn't really think too much

00:47of it.

00:48That smoke has then turned into a big fire and they were shocked this morning to hear

00:52that a young boy had died in that fire.

00:56Arsonists and chemists have arrived on scene this morning from Melbourne and they're combing

01:00through the scene today just to find out what the cause is behind this fire that has tragically

01:05killed this young boy.
