00:00Today, we're on the hunt for Montreal's sleeping giants.
00:14Walking through Montreal, you're bound to come across a lot of street art.
00:18From tiny pieces like this one that go way under people's radar, hidden behind buildings,
00:23to massive murals that make you feel really small.
00:27There's something just about everywhere here.
00:30But today, we're looking for something a bit bigger.
00:34Spread across the city at this very moment are pieces of art called the sleeping giants.
00:39And they're called the sleeping giants because these things are huge, sometimes as big as
00:44the size of a city block.
00:47So if these pieces really are that big, where are they?
00:50And why have so few people actually seen them?
00:53Ella and Peter are a duo from France, and they're the talent behind the sleeping giants.
00:58They've hidden their art all over the world.
01:01The only catch though, they don't tell anyone where they are.
01:04Seriously, there are entire forums of people trying to figure out the locations of some
01:08of these pieces.
01:09But with a lot of research and a little bit of help, I managed to track down one of these
01:13sleeping giants to here in Hochelaga.
01:15The thing is, I just have to find the place.
01:19Now the artists went through a lot of trouble to hide these pieces.
01:23So I'm going to do them a solid and keep it a secret.
01:26But I will tell you this, the piece we're going to today is not far off from the Olympic
01:30Stadium.
01:31All right, so I'm here.
01:33At least I think I am.
01:34See, I tracked down the sleeping giant to this white building in Hochelaga.
01:39But on the surface, it doesn't really look like anything special at all.
01:43The only way to know for sure if there is a sleeping giant here is to go to the very
01:46top of the roof and check for ourselves.
01:48It's time to go high.
01:52Higher, higher.
01:55There it is.
01:58Whoa, that is huge.
02:02Oh my god, it's so much bigger than I expected it to be.
02:10I never think for a second that something this big was just above me the whole time.
02:16Okay, hold up.
02:18It looks like there's two more sleeping giants just a couple blocks from here.
02:21Let's go.
02:23It should be around here somewhere.
02:26Not the easiest things to find.
02:28And again, it's really hard to make out anything on the rooftops from the ground.
02:32But this is the direction we're supposed to be moving in.
02:34I think this is it.
02:35It should be around here somewhere.
02:38Here.
02:41Absolutely wild.
02:43In case you can't tell, this one measures in at over 6,500 square feet.
02:51Ella and Peter are famous for these huge murals.
02:55And they've secretly left their mark everywhere from Chile to Norway.
02:59So this is a really special view that we're getting.
03:05What we do know is the old woman giant and the giant in the red dress were gifts from
03:10the artists from their visit to Montreal during the 2016 Under Pressure Graffiti Festival.
03:21There really isn't anything else like this in Montreal.
03:31Art like this is easy to spot in a city.
03:34But art like the sleeping giants is a little bit harder.
03:37Even though it's hiding in plain sight, you just have to know where to look.
03:40Alright, that's it for this episode.
03:41But I will see you next time with another hidden place in Montreal that you're going
03:45to want to know about.
03:46Take care.
