Detroit Lions rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany impressed coaches, teammates in his debut against Chicago Bears.

00:12I just thought that he impressed and

00:14I do think it's a little bit of a bold take to say that all right away after one game against a subpar opponent that

00:20He should replace Graham Glasgow

00:22But I think you have to put it into context that Glasgow dealing with something. He's banged up. He's nicked up. He's not healthy

00:29When Graham Glasgow is healthy, I do think that he's the better more experienced offensive lineman

00:35But you at least can secure some depth with a player for the rest of the year that should something happen or you see something

00:41From Graham that indicates. Hey, maybe he's not right or he's not performing as expected

00:46You got a guy that can go in and I think can develop

00:49I think everybody saw that he had good blocking technique kept himself. I limited the penalty. I think to just one

00:56False start and I do think that when you look at his overall game

01:00I think he gave the the fan base a lot of confidence that hey, this guy can potentially be the left guard of the future

01:06Hey, this is the reason why they invested a draft pick in selecting a Boston College offensive lineman Christian mahogany

01:13I thought he performed. Well, what did you see from him? What did you like?

01:16And what's your reaction when you hear the fan base right away say wait a minute young guy right away could be a little bit

01:22Better we've seen Graham struggle a little bit. What's your reaction when you hear as well?

01:25That he should jump right in and take over the job, you know, I'm not ready to go quite there yet

01:30Graham Glasgow did sign a contract extension this past offseason for three years

01:35So I you know Graham's gonna be here for the next little bit

01:38Um, but if he is mahogany potentially a rotational guy next year is mahogany the the right guard in the future?

01:46Kevin Zwickler's on a one-year contract. Is he the guy that steps in there like who's to say?

01:51I mean, it's still early and it's only been one game and obviously, you know

01:55He played well on Sunday, but as a rookie if he gets more time on the field

02:00You're gonna start to see some highs and lows and well, it probably wasn't perfect for him on Sunday

02:04the one thing I will say

02:06That I was really impressed by was his ability to get down the field and block when the Lions would go with their scrimming game

02:12Whether it was him just getting up to the second level

02:14I thought he did a really good job

02:16Getting up the field and helping out as a blocker

02:19Beyond the line of scrimmage and I think that's a talent that for a rookie who spent a lot of time

02:24Be at the preseason or the early parts of this year on the sideline

02:27Like that's something that you can really take and kind of be a feather in his cap

02:31Like I was really impressed with Christian mahogany on Sunday, and if he gets the chance to start again

02:36I think the Lions should continue to roll with him because he's a young player with a lot of upside

02:42But if Graham Glasgow is healthy moving forward, I still think he's your guy

02:46You can still utilize mahogany to give one of the guards a break

02:51If you can find ways to get him in the game

02:53Just so that you don't have to to give somebody like Glasgow who while he may be good enough to go moving forward

02:59He may still be a little banged up

03:01Finding a series or two where you can throw mahogany out there and help you out to kind of take a little bit of a

03:07Load off of Glasgow. I think that could be an option. I'm not ready to say mahogany has usurped

03:13Glasgow and it's the starter moving forward

03:15I'm not ready to say that but I think there's a lot to be excited about with him and his potential and I think that

03:20The sixth round pick did a really good job on Sunday

03:23And so he can be viewed as a potential death piece moving forward or as somebody who could in another year

03:30Be ready to go as the starting member of the lineup
