00:00So Newcastle United win a fourth game in a row in all competitions with a 3-0 win over
00:06Aston Villa here at St James' Park and another brilliant day for Eddie Howe's side.
00:10They've been really good over the last week or so, two weeks and today was another big
00:17step in the right direction against a Villa side that came into this game above them in
00:21the table two points in two places above them but yeah Newcastle really showed their dominance.
00:28Of course we all know the red card will be spoken about and that'll be the main turning point a lot
00:33of people will say that was the reason for Newcastle's win but before that Newcastle were
00:37really good they started off really well I'll go through the game in a minute but you know
00:40that Villa did come back into it just before the red card but to be honest it was Newcastle's day
00:44felt they had another level or two to go up and they had bright spots I don't think they weren't
00:48perfect for 90 minutes Newcastle far from it really actually but they had enough in them in
00:53a couple of you know two or three good moments to get the win and yeah that's I said fourth
00:59win in a row was that 15 goals in four games one conceded in all competitions that's sorry 14 goals
01:05that's you know that's fantastic really they could have had another six or seven we've had we spoke
01:08about that over the last couple weeks where they could have had six or seven goals we've got four
01:12you know a couple times last week three again today they could have had a lot to do but yeah
01:17I'll go through Anthony Gordon starts the match off fantastically there's a great finale
01:23fantastic interception from him he plays it Bruno Bruno to Joel and Joel feeds Gordon
01:28and as soon as he come on his right foot you knew what exactly what he's going to do I mean
01:30Martinez knew exactly what he was going to do but he got nowhere near the shot it was an absolutely
01:34fantastic effort from Gordon into that top corner simply brilliant and you know after a match you
01:40need some sort of spark sometimes I've seen James spark and that's not a criticism but you do need
01:44a spark and that was a spark to get everything every one of all the fans you know chanting his
01:49name and it was a brilliant goal brilliant play from you guys and not just the finish the finish
01:52was obviously fantastic but it was just a brilliant goal in general you know the build-up the
01:57interception against Tonali, Joel Hinton's run yeah it was just a fantastic start and after that
02:01Villa did come back into the game as you'd expect you know they had that early setback but they
02:05they believe in what they're doing and IMRE is a good coach you know he's got them coached well
02:09but they were that all their momentum really was was taken from them when John Durant got sent off
02:15I've seen some people say it wasn't a red card I'm shocked that anyone thinks it wasn't a red
02:19card I've even seen Alan Shearer say that he thought it was slightly harsh but the incident
02:23occurred he was played through Fabian Scherr with a tough tackle but a good tackle and Durant as
02:28he's fallen catches Scherr on his back with his studs I would say and I think that a lot of people
02:35you know on first glance certainly from where I was sat I thought it was just an accidental one
02:38I thought that he's got nowhere else to go and he's got to land on it but I think you see one
02:42replay you can see that the force of him does come down maybe his left foot is is slipping but that's
02:48no excuse for his right foot to go where it does I think he knew what he was doing Durant and I
02:51think he was rightly sent off and I think VAR did right not overturn the decision it always felt
02:55like one it was never going to overturn the decision but you know Hanson Taylor would give
03:00himself a couple of minutes to compose himself he showed a red card Villa were obviously not happy
03:04with that Durant then his reaction threw and kicked a water bottle on the pitch so he wasn't
03:08happy with that and there was a bit of needle going that was about 30 30th minute 32nd minute
03:12there's a bit of needle then going into halftime I had a couple of decisions Joe Linton in the corner
03:16and catching Morgan Rodgers that was Morgan Rodgers made a lot of nothing there and then
03:21heading into the break there was a clash between sort of coaches players and in the tunnel Jason
03:26Tindall was sent off a Villa Aston Villa analyst was sent off Unai Emery was visibly upset or you
03:32know angry with that decision we'll soon try to see what he says after full time and show there'll
03:36be reaction from that on the Shoes Gazette but yeah come out the second half Newcastle again
03:40against 10 men without Jason Tindall in the dugout and to be fair Aston Villa they started well I
03:44think Newcastle not struggling for ideas but we've seen them against teams that sit back low they do
03:48sort of tend to struggle to break teams down Aston Villa didn't really change what they did I think
03:52they they slowed things down a little bit more but and they were a little bit more cautious but they
03:55were still there you know the team that you expect the attacking unit expect but Newcastle really
03:59turned on the second half really made their their dominance count with a couple of yeah a couple of
04:04good goals first from Alexander Isak he had a he had an interesting game he was very much involved
04:09he was a menace to the Villa defence did miss a couple of chances and first first half sort of a
04:16couple of touches didn't really fall his way but yeah his goal brilliant play down the right
04:20Jacob Murphy feed him in it was a tap in really but you know it's a goal he has to take a striker's
04:24goal and yeah he did very well at this goal that that was too low once that happens you think that
04:28is game over Aston Villa had a couple of chances I had one from a set piece you think um that might
04:33have happened uh Martin Dubravka made a good save in the first half from a Lucas Dean free kick but
04:37now he was really untested in that goal Newcastle as I said could have had six or seven Joel Hinton
04:41had the ball in the net in the first half that was judged for the ball that grew out of play beforehand
04:45I think that that was the right call Newcastle then had the ball in the net for by Isak again
04:50but that was offside haven't seen a replay on that by all intents and purposes was a close one but of
04:54course the VAR to be fair the technology was really good for offside so that's one there and then Bruno
04:59right at the end um bit fortuitous he was just sort of stood there it was good play by the wingers
05:04um and then Ezra Conzard just cleared the ball off Bruno but he did clear it off his arm
05:09and that was ruled out and you think you know 2-0 was fine but you're always worried about 2-0
05:12is that going to be it's that dangerous scoreline you know the old theme but they finally made it
05:16three Joel Hinton um picked up a ball from Martinette or sorry the defender it was a poor pass
05:21Joel Hinton urged to shoot by probably 50,000 people in this crowd and he did that and killed
05:26it over Martinette so it's a brilliant finish to to the game and yeah Newcastle United 4-0
05:30winners as I said the red card sort of make it feel how it's it's hard to sort of dissect it
05:34with the red card what would have happened without it but Newcastle were very good value for the win
05:38very good before that I think Aston Villa were second best and yeah fantastic with Verdi outside
05:42fantastic two weeks as mentioned and they're going to go to Manchester United on Monday night at
05:46Old Trafford full of confidence of ending that been a long way for a Premier League win there
05:50of course they've only won once in the Premier League there they have they've only won once
05:53in the last 10 years there that was obviously last season the Carabao Cup so yes very good
05:57win for Newcastle United to end 2024 at St James' Park one more game left of the year
06:02before two really important games against Tottenham and Arsenal to come next you know in
06:07first couple weeks of next year but right now Newcastle United will be very happy
06:10with that performance they've got Old Trafford on Monday very confident of a win
