Thousands pack Sydney’s Beaches for Christmas Celebrations

Thousands of people have flocked to Sydney’s beaches to celebrate Christmas in the sand. Dubbed the 'orphans Christmas', most people enjoying the festive holiday at the beach are international tourists and backpackers.

00:09Every inch is covered from the sand to the road for what has become known as the Orphan's

00:16The name refers to the large majority of those here today being international tourists and

00:21backpackers celebrating the holidays away from home.

00:25Everyone we've chatted to is in very high spirits with many donning a combo of Santa

00:30hats and swimmers.

00:32Merry Christmas!

00:36While they celebrate, revellers are being reminded to use the bins provided, clean up

00:41as they go and to listen to any instructions from authorities present here today.
