00:00Hi guys and welcome to DriveSpark, I'm Prameet and today what we are driving is the Mercedes-Benz
00:15CLE 300 Cabriolet.
00:27Now this car is based on the C-Class but obviously it has a lot of changes and that includes
00:33this gets two doors and a convertible soft top.
00:37So let's quickly start this video and I'll tell you everything you need to know about
00:41this convertible.
00:48So when you look at the CLE 300 from the outside, it looks like a very aggressive, sporty car
00:54and that is because it sits low, it has two doors and it's got a convertible soft top
01:00and let me tell you that this is not a proper AMG, this gets a two litre turbo petrol engine
01:05but we'll be talking about that in later in the video.
01:09So let us quickly start talking about the exteriors, now the very first thing you will
01:12notice that this gets a very sleek pair of headlamps at the front and that is because
01:18it is a fabulous cluster, I mean the throw from the headlights is just amazing, the high
01:23beam, I mean you should not do it on oncoming traffic because it is very very bright.
01:30Now it gets the Mercedes digital lighting setup all over and since this is an AMG trim,
01:37you get a slight amount of sportiness, you get some amount of chrome at the front as
01:41well, you get your logo where you have Mercedes logos all over the grille and obviously this
01:46sits low to the ground so it gets a very very low lip and because of that you have to be
01:51a little more careful, otherwise what will happen is that you will tend to hit a slope
01:57when you're going up or you're coming down one.
02:00So yeah, I mean that is something you need to be cautious of, apart from that if you
02:04move to the side, you get these beautiful looking multi-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels
02:09that have an aero sort of a design and this overall complements the car very much.
02:14Now talking about ground clearance, this has around 157mm of ground clearance which is
02:19on the lower side and if you have people sitting with you in the car, then obviously you have
02:23to be careful over potholes, over speed bumps and a lot of things.
02:27Apart from that, if you see the chrome on the car, little bit on the front, some on
02:31the side that you get on door handle and obviously at the back where you see on the lower part
02:36of the bumper, you get some chrome elements, you get some fake exhaust tips, obviously
02:41the exhaust is tucked underneath, I don't know why Mercedes has to do that but anyway,
02:45it looks good, you get a diffuser, you get your CL300 badge, you get your 4Matic badge
02:50and obviously the 4Matic is your all-wheel drive system.
02:54So now if you see the colour of the top, it is in red, you have a lot of options but I
02:58think the red goes overall well with all the body colour options that are available
03:03with this car.
03:04So yeah, the red top with this white, with this pearl white colour, it actually looks
03:08amazing and obviously this car, I'm not a big fan of chrome but this car has to have
03:16some amount of chrome and it has the right proportion of chrome all around, giving it
03:20that luxury and sport, it's a well-balanced between luxury and sportiness.
03:25Now if we move to the inside, you will notice that, first of all, if you have seen the C-Class,
03:31then you have seen the CLE300, I mean, they are technically the same on the inside, there
03:38are small changes here and there, now first of all, you can see that the interiors are
03:42finished in red, there's soft touch material all over, the dashboard has some carbon fibre
03:47elements, it's not carbon fibre, it looks like carbon fibre, it gives it that sporty
03:51feel and now you have this infotainment system but the change in the infotainment system
03:56is that when you have your roof down and the sun is glaring right on top of your head,
04:01what will happen is that the sun will come directly, it will fall directly on this infotainment
04:06system and it will, I mean, it will just blind you.
04:09So to avoid that, to get a better readout from the infotainment system, there's a button
04:12over here, so if you press the button over here on the infotainment system, it will tilt
04:18by 40 degrees and that will give you a better view and better clarity of what is going on
04:24all around.
04:25Now, on the inside also, you get a flat bottom steering wheel, it is not a AMG spec steering
04:32wheel, obviously, you have AMG mats and that's about it, you get a Burmester sound system
04:38that is obviously very very nice and there are a couple of buttons over here, so there
04:44are three buttons, now first of all, you get two cup holders, you get your wireless charger
04:47and you get some type C charging cables, but there are three buttons over here, one is
04:52to put the top down, one is to put the top up and one is for your air deflectors that
04:57are present on top, so if you press that, the air deflector will come from here and
05:01back and if you have your top down, dust or debris will not directly enter the cabin,
05:06it will be deflected on top and to open the roof, you have to just hold it and this will
05:13take around 20 seconds, now first, the boot opens and obviously, after that, everything
05:19opens up, so yeah, that is how you can convert this into like a gorgeous looking car in just
05:2620 seconds and yeah, that's about it, there'll be a beep, so after the beep, you can see
05:32that this car has completed the roof opening and same goes for the roof closing as well,
05:38so the windows will come down, again, if you count it on a timer, it'll take close
05:43to around 20 seconds and within 20 seconds, you can have your roof up and down, but there
05:48is a catch in this, you have to keep your speed just under 60 kilometers per hour, if
05:55you exceed that, there will be a notification that the roof cannot open or cannot close
06:00because there's a speed limit to which the roof can open and close and that is 60 kmph,
06:06so remember that and if you talk about the boot space of this car, so the boot space
06:10is around 420 litres, but on paper, it's just 420 litres, you really don't get a lot of
06:16boot space because first of all, the roof, it, half of the boot is taken away by the
06:21roof, so and obviously, there is a spare wheel, which you see in the boot, so the spare wheel
06:26obviously takes up a lot of space and the boot is just, I mean, it's left for like small
06:32luggage or like a one cabin bag or something like that, but if you have luggage in the
06:36boot, if you remove the spare wheel, then you really have to take care when you put
06:41the roof down because obviously, the roof will go down, but it will obviously go down
06:46and settle inside the boot, so I mean, 420 litres, there is 420 litres, but obviously,
06:55the 420 litres is not very, very useful, because again, the spare wheel and the roof
07:02that settles inside the boot, so now let's talk about the engine of the CLE 300, so it
07:08gets a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and that is assisted with a 48-volt mild hybrid tech
07:15and that produces 255 bhp of power, 400 nm of peak torque and all of this is mated to
07:21a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all the wheels, as I mentioned
07:26before, you had 4MATIC written behind, 4MATIC means an all-wheel drive, so this is basically
07:31an all-wheel drive car, really helps because when you're taking tight corners, each individual
07:36wheel, the power will be delivered to that according to, I mean, how much grip the wheel
07:40needs, so yeah, that's a really good thing, because of that, the mileage of the car is
07:46slightly on the lower side, because the company claims around 12-12.5, we've been driving
07:51around in the city in comfort mode and we are getting close to around 9-10, it varies
07:57between 9-10, I think on the highway, if you cruise, you will get a better fuel efficiency,
08:02now talking about the suspension, the suspension on the CLE feels slightly on the stiffer side
08:09is what I feel, I mean, it is fairly stiff, I would not call it a complete stiff suspension,
08:15because it is not a very stiff suspension and it is slightly on the stiffer side, but
08:20obviously it offers you a lot of comfort, it glides over bumps and potholes, but one
08:24thing again you have to keep in mind is the ground clearance, because 157mm is really
08:29low, so you just can't go on a speed bump at a very high pace, because obviously it
08:33will hit the underbody, steering is very nice, you have four driving modes, you have Eco,
08:38Comfort, Sport and Individual, you also have an, there's a slight grunt to the exhaust,
08:44you can increase or decrease the sound of the exhaust, it's not a proper AMG valve exhaust,
08:50but there is some setting that Mercedes has done through the infotainment system, you
08:53can go and you can just put a sport mode on the exhaust and you will have a little bit
08:58of grunt inside the cabin, apart from that, the seats are very very comfortable, thankfully
09:04they are not AMG seats, because AMG seats are very stiff, they are very hard, so these
09:08seats are very nice and very comfortable though, however, the rear seats obviously
09:14are best suited for children and if you want to go to the rear seat, you have to pull a
09:19lever on this, the front seat will come ahead, it will move automatically forward and then
09:23you can step inside, well, however, if the roof is not open, then getting in will be
09:28a difficulty, but otherwise if the roof is down, you can just walk into the rear seat
09:32and sit, but once you put the seat back, this front seat back, the seat will move behind
09:36and then you will notice that, yeah, there is very less amount of space, so this is technically,
09:40you can say this is a two-seater or a two plus two children at back or, I mean, seriously
09:46people with short height, like short-heighted people will also find it difficult, if you're
09:51going somewhere nearby, it is fine, but if you are going to travel for a long distance,
09:56the rear seats really do not exist, you can have some luggage in there, but overall, if
10:00you see on the inside, the interiors look really nice with this white red package that
10:06this gets and if you talk about safety, obviously, safety has been taken care, there are 11 airbags
10:11in this car and obviously, since this is convertible, you have these A-pillars that have a beam
10:16inside and obviously, on an unfortunate situation, where if the car topples over, this thing
10:21will take the weight of the car and obviously, you will not hit your head, unless you're
10:26wearing a seatbelt, which is really, really important, so safety has been taken care of
10:30and if we talk about the pricing of the CLE 300, this car carries a price tag of Rs. 1.1
10:37crore ex-showroom, on road, somewhere between 1.25 to 1.3 crore, depending from where you're
10:44buying the car, so yeah guys, this was the Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 Cabriolet and this is
10:51a fantastic looking car, this is a very, very eye-catchy car, people turn around and just
10:56look at it and that is because of this soft top and yeah, one more thing about the soft top
11:01is that this thing is really well insulated, so it definitely does not cut you out from the
11:06outside world, but it will cut out most of the noise that you get and you really will not feel
11:12that you're driving a convertible, so if you have anything else to ask about this car, please
11:17mention on the comment section and we will get back to you on that, until then, I'm Prameet
11:20signing out, see you next time, thank you so much for watching, take care, be safe and drive safe.
