00:00Nearly 500 information officers took part in the inaugural Barangay Information Officers Network Assembly in the Carraga region.

00:09Philippine Information Agency, Carraga's Jennifer Peña-Gaitano tells us more.

00:18Wearing their blue shirts with the phrase,

00:20a well-informed Filipino is an empowered Filipino.

00:23All Barangay Information Officers in the province of Agusan, Del Sur,

00:26including information officers from various offices of the provincial government,

00:30were united in the first Barangay Information Officers Network, or Bayon Assembly, in the town of Prosperidad.

00:36The gathering was a significant one for the participants because of the learning sessions shared to them

00:41by the Presidential Communications Office and Philippine Information Agency, Carraga,

00:45along with the Department of the Interior and local government.

00:48I am thankful for the opportunity given to us by the Barangay Secretary or Barangay Information Officer

00:55regarding the accurate information that should be given to the people, especially to the communities.

01:03Once we are informed, well-informed, we are empowered.

01:07And when people are empowered, it is easier to function in the community.

01:14The participants hoped for a sustainable network of the Barangay Information Officers

01:18and to have more trainings by next year.

01:20Assistant Secretary for Cultural Affairs and International Engagements, Ruena Hidalgo-Otida of the PCO,

01:26urged information officers to be responsible in sharing information with the public through social media platforms.

01:32PIA Deputy Director General for Regional Operations, Adolfo R.S. Gutierrez,

01:36also reminded everyone to help the government combat misinformation and disinformation.

01:42The information officers signed the Pledge of Commitment and assured that they will do their best

01:46to disseminate accurate, timely, and relevant information on the programs and projects of the government

01:52to their respective communities.
