00:00The leader of the land has time and again assured his administration's full support to the defenders of sovereignty.

00:06That's why the chief executive didn't miss the chance to attend and personally congratulate the Armed Forces of the Philippines

00:13on its 89th anniversary celebration.

00:16PTV's Patrick de Souza tells us more.

00:21The Armed Forces of the Philippines celebrates its 89th anniversary

00:26with the team Sandiga ng Sambayanan Tungo sa Bagong, Pilipinas.

00:30This was personally attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

00:35where he assured continued support for the AFP, including the modernization of their capabilities and skills.

00:42Modernization is not simply about acquiring advanced equipment.

00:46It is about transforming the way we think, the way we act, and the way we operate as a unified force.

00:54The commander-in-chief also recognized the AFP's response to various challenges and changes in the security landscape for almost nine decades.

01:03President Marcos, Jr. stated the AFP serves as the foundation of the country's sovereignty.

01:10As your commander-in-chief, I encourage you to remain true to the values that have guided this institution for 89 years.

01:19Uphold honor in the face of adversity.

01:22Lead with compassion, especially in times of crisis.

01:26Inspire with your humanity, for it is your very character that defines the Armed Forces.

01:33Meanwhile, the AFP declined to comment on the alleged open letter from retired soldiers to the president

01:40questioning the 2025 national budget, which included cuts to the AFP modernization program.

01:47The AFP expressed trust in the president.

01:50In fact, he was supposed to sign the budget into law today.

01:55But he didn't do it because he wanted to review it first.

01:59And if he needs to return the budget, he will do it.

02:04So, we have full trust in our system.

02:08It doesn't have to be a source of discontent or even concerning.

02:14Meaning, of course, we are concerned about the budget, but we trust the system.

02:20Browner also clarified that the command conference led by President Marcos, Jr. with the AFP was not a loyalty check.

02:28Nothing. There was no loyalty check.

02:31What was important in the command conference is that we presented the accomplishments of the AFP all throughout the years.

02:40Nothing political. The command conference was very professional.

02:46One of the priorities highlighted by the commander-in-chief during the command conference was cyber security.
