00:00The Biden-Harris administration was, for all intents and purposes, a dune and blessing
00:06to the Philippine government on several fronts or facets while it lasted.
00:11But the gains that have obtained and relished do not end with the change of the guard as
00:16President Ferdinand Marquez Jr. let outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris know and thanked
00:22her in their latest phone call chat as world leaders.
00:26PTV's Kenneth Paciente tells us more.
00:30President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. is confident that the alliance between the Philippines
00:34and the United States will remain strong despite changes in its leadership.
00:39The President highlighted this point during his phone conversation with U.S. Vice President
00:43Kamala Harris.
00:45The President also pointed out significant progress in bilateral relations with the U.S.,
00:49particularly in the areas of economy, diplomacy, defense, and security.
00:54This solid foundation, according to the Chief Executive, can be further strengthened by
00:58deepening ties between the two countries, promoting their shared principles, especially
01:03in issues concerning international law.
01:06Harris emphasized the importance of the U.S.' continued support for the Philippines, especially
01:10amid China's persistent aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
01:14She also recalled her visit to the Philippines, which, according to her, strengthened the
01:18U.S. determination to support the country in terms of security and prosperity.
01:22Harris also highlighted the U.S. Congress' support to further strengthen the relation
01:26between the United States and the Philippines, particularly in security, economic growth,
01:30and people-to-people relations.
01:32The Chief Executive acknowledged this and expressed gratitude to Harris and the U.S.
01:36government for their efforts in fostering strong relations between the two countries.
01:41He also underscored the role of the United States in changing the situation not just
01:45in the South China Sea, but also in the Indo-Pacific region.
01:49The call between Harris and President Marquez Jr. occurred just days after a trilateral
01:53phone conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.
01:59Harris stressed the importance of trilateral cooperation among the Philippines, the U.S.,
02:03and Japan to deepen economic cooperation, strengthen the supply chain, and enhance regional
02:08security.
02:09The U.S. is the Philippines' longest and only treaty ally.
02:13Bilateral defense and security serve as the primary pillars of the two countries' relationship
02:17as implemented under the Mutual Defense Treaty, Visiting Forces Agreement, Enhanced Defense
02:23Cooperation Agreement, and other bilateral agreements.
