00:00A new law could soon shake up the education system, aiming to keep kids safer and improve
00:05their learning, whether they're in school or taught at home. The Children's Wellbeing
00:09and Schools Bill would introduce ID numbers for children, making it easier for services
00:13like schools, councils and social workers to share information and spot kids who might
00:18need help. Councils would also have to track children who aren't in school, making sure
00:22they're getting a proper education. For families, there are big changes if you homeschool
00:27your child. If there's a child protection investigation, parents won't automatically
00:30be allowed to homeschool. Councils will step in to check if it's the right choice and
00:35that the teaching at home is good enough. They'll also have more power to step in if
00:39a home environment isn't safe. Schools will see some updates too. All new teachers will
00:43need proper qualifications by 2026. Teachers' pay will be equal across all state-funded
00:48schools and the schools will have to teach the updated national curriculum. Plus, the
00:53government wants to help struggling schools improve without automatically turning them
00:57in to academies. For parents and families, this bill promises more safeguards to protect
01:02vulnerable children and ensure all kids get a fair shot at a good education.
