00:04to a charge of deceiving a woman by offering a baby for adoption.
00:0940-year-old Mahira Mohamed Yusof was accused of deceiving NJ Lechumi Naidu
00:14into believing she was offering the baby for adoption,
00:17causing the victim to pay 15,950 ringgit in installments to the accused.
00:24The offence was allegedly committed in Kepong Baru,
00:27Sentul between January 20 and June 7 this year.
00:31The charge was framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code,
00:35which provides for a minimum jail term of one year and a maximum of 10 years and whipping,
00:40and a fine upon conviction.
00:43Deputy Public Prosecutor Hench Goh proposed bail of 6,000 ringgit in one surety.
00:49Lawyer Faris Ezani, representing Mahira,
00:52appealed for a lower bail on the grounds that the accused is unemployed,
00:56has four children and suffers from diabetes and anemia.
01:01Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin set bail of 6,500 ringgit in one surety
01:06and fixed February 13 for next mention.
