Man charged with stealing a child on the Sunshine Coast

A man has been charged with the abduction of a child in Queensland.

00:00A court has heard how a man accused of stealing a child on the Sunshine Coast is also accused

00:08of threatening police.

00:10Authorities released an AMBER alert after an 8-year-old girl was taken from a facility

00:14in Maroochydore, not far from where we're standing, earlier yesterday.

00:20She was found safe more than 7 hours later and 40km away at Iwavale.

00:25A 44-year-old Koolum man has been charged with child stealing and trespass offences.

00:31Police say the man and child are known to each other.

00:34Magistrate Rodney Madsen refused the man's bail request, saying he was allegedly caught

00:38on CCTV taking the child and later making threats towards police.

00:43He also told the court police had to negotiate with the man before the child was released.

00:49The 44-year-old is due to return to Maroochydore Magistrate's Court in March next year.
